Summary

Resource Management Concepts, Inc. (RMC) delivers innovative management and technology solutions to government and commercial clients. This is a 100% on-site position supporting enterprise Linux operations. The Senior Linux Engineer will administer, secure, troubleshoot, and sustain Linux infrastructure while using Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) to improve reliability, patching, configuration management, and vulnerability remediation. The position serves as a senior escalation point, leads recovery during major outages, and mentors Linux support personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, administer, patch, and sustain enterprise Linux servers and workstations across physical, virtual, and cloud environments. Manage accounts, groups, permissions, access controls, system services, repositories, SELinux, LVM, partitions, and filesystems.
  • Administer and troubleshoot LDAP, NFS, DNS, SSH, and enterprise identity services, including integration with Windows Active Directory.
  • Provide Tier I-III operational support, including ServiceNow incident intake, triage, escalation, customer communication, and resolution. Diagnose kernel, boot, service, security, networking, and performance issues using system diagnostics and log analysis.
  • Lead major outage response, root cause analysis, forensic investigation, and service restoration. Tune CPU, memory, and I/O performance and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Administer SAN/NAS storage, RAID, multipathing, backups, and restores. Support application deployments, virtualization, high availability, clustering, and disaster recovery; validate recovery procedures.
  • Deploy, upgrade, administer, and optimize AAP 2.x, including Automation Controller, Private Automation Hub, Execution Environments, inventories, projects, credentials, templates, workflows, and RBAC.
  • Develop, test, troubleshoot, and maintain Ansible playbooks, roles, collections, and Python, Bash, and Perl scripts for provisioning, patching, configuration management, diagnostics, reporting, and routine operations. Build Execution Environments using ansible-builder and modernize legacy Tower/AWX workflows.
  • Integrate automation with ServiceNow, Git/GitLab, Red Hat Satellite, Splunk, Dynatrace, vulnerability-management platforms, and monitoring tools. Maintain GitLab CI/CD, GitOps, configuration-as-code practices, and Docker container operations.
  • Implement and automate DISA STIG configurations, ACAS remediation, Linux hardening, and compliance activities supporting RMF and NIST SP 800-53 controls.
  • Maintain architecture diagrams, operational procedures, configuration records, and recovery instructions. Mentor Tier I and Tier II personnel in administration, troubleshooting, escalation, and customer support.

Requirements
  • Active Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance.
  • Minimum 10 years of hands-on Linux system administration experience, including at least five years of full-time operations and maintenance demonstrating expert knowledge of Linux security and network/distributed computing concepts.
  • Minimum five years of experience writing and maintaining Linux shell and Perl scripts, with expert scripting ability, strong Python and Bash skills, and experience diagnosing scripting errors.
  • Minimum three years of hands-on AAP experience, including platform administration, complex playbooks, roles, custom collections, reusable automation content, and Execution Environments built with ansible-builder.
  • Deep RHEL internals knowledge, including RHEL 8/9, and working knowledge of CentOS, Rocky Linux, and Ubuntu. Strong CLI proficiency using systemd, journalctl, /var/log, chmod, chown, yum, dnf, apt, ping, netstat, and ss.
  • Expertise in LDAP, NFS, DNS, SSH, Active Directory integration, account and access management, sudoers, SELinux, Linux storage administration, and secure image deployment.
  • Experience troubleshooting kernel, service, security, and performance issues; tuning CPU, memory, and I/O; and supporting routing, firewalls, and distributed systems.
  • Experience with SAN/NAS, RAID, multipathing, backups/restores, high availability, clustering, and virtualization platforms including VMware ESXi, Hyper-V, Linux KVM, and Xen/XCP-NG.
  • Experience with Docker, GitLab CI/CD, GitOps, configuration as code, Red Hat Satellite, and automation integrations.
  • Experience implementing and automating DISA STIG compliance, Linux hardening, ACAS remediation, and vulnerability management using RMF and NIST SP 800-53 controls.
  • Experience leading major outage recovery, performing root cause analysis, forensic investigation, and log correlation.
  • Minimum one year of help desk or direct IT customer support experience, demonstrating communication, teamwork, and customer service skills; familiarity with ServiceNow incident workflows.
  • Experience mentoring technical personnel and preparing architecture documentation, SOPs, and recovery procedures.
  • Associate degree or higher in computer engineering, computer science, or information technology from an accredited college or university.
  • Completed Linux operating system training, maintained current throughout employment.

Required Certifications
  • Active DoD IAT Level III baseline certification, such as CompTIA SecurityX ce (formerly CASP+), CISSP, CISA, CCNP Security, GCED, IH.
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) and Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).
