Duties

Help

  • You will perform Linux/UNIX systems hardware and software analysis, and programming in support of operational and developmental users of Fleet Numerical Meteorology and Oceanography Center.
  • You will be responsible for coding, testing, documentation, and operational integration of both COTS and specialty software/hardware in a highly-available Linux based HPC environment.
  • You will provide analysis and design support for new systems and expertise in implementing major modifications to operating systems and related functionality.
  • You will perform unit and systems test and coordinate integration of modification into the operational systems.
  • You will perform installation updates, and enhancements of operational software and hardware.
  • You will prepare systems requirements, design, maintenance, using and operational documentation and assist in the preparation of Life Cycle management documentation
  • You will provide consultation and advice to HPC operators, support personnel, maintenance technical application programmers and analysis regarding clustered operations and design principles.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for specialty area SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR level ADVANCED within 12 months of appointment.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience evaluating systems' capabilities to meet new requirements; providing a basis for developing feasible alternative designs, and to provide a basis for user consultation and operational troubleshooting
  • Experience in lifecycle management and system design to evaluate requirements and implement technical modifications.
  • Experience applying Information Assurance (IA) principles, including conducting vulnerability assessments, hardening systems, and supporting formal security accreditation processes.
  • Experience conducting system administration duties on Linux systems including the configuration and management of large-scale clustered environments or high-performance computing (HPC) architectures.
  • Experience demonstrating proficiency in scripting languages (such as Python, Bash, or C/C++) to automate administrative tasks and integrating complex software into operational systems.
  • Experience supporting complex Cyber Security support for Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts and Bulletins (IAVA/IAVB) to ensure low-level Cyber Threat posture.
