Job Description

ABOUT THE PROGRAM - Summer 2027 Internship

As an intern at Invenergy, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Expand your knowledge and skills with industry leading tools and software while gaining hands-on professional experience

  • Our program takes place from the end of May/early June - August lasting for 10-12 weeks

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP

Applicants will be considered for internships with various electrical engineering departments across the organization. Our engineering interns are responsible for overseeing the technical design, evaluation, and construction of commercial and utility-scale projects. In the past, our engineering interns have joined teams such as:

Renewable Electrical Engineering
  • As an intern on the Renewable Electrical Engineering team, you will be responsible for the electrical engineering and construction of cutting-edge energy projects.
  • With the support of senior engineers, you will be responsible for managing conceptual project designs and the selected engineering firms in order to complete final detailed designs for projects to be built.
  • The electrical systems of these projects utilize inverter-based wind and solar generators that include 1500V DC wiring systems, 34.5kV AC medium voltage collection/distribution circuits, collector substations to step-up power, and transmission line interconnections to the grid at high and extra high voltages.

Thermal Electrical Engineering
  • As an intern on the Thermal Electrical Engineering team, you will be responsible for the electrical engineering and construction of cutting-edge natural gas generation projects.
  • With the support of senior engineers, you will be responsible for managing conceptual project designs and the selected engineering firms in order to complete final detailed designs for projects to be built.
  • The electrical systems of these projects utilize natural gas generators, medium voltage auxiliary power systems, switchyards to step-up power, and transmission line interconnections to the grid at high and extra high voltages.

SCADA Engineering
  • As an intern on the SCADA Engineering construction team, you will be responsible for the engineering, procurement and commissioning of supervisory control & data acquisition (SCADA) systems and associated communications infrastructure related to cutting-edge renewable energy projects.
  • You will work with senior engineers to coordinate with multiple stakeholders to develop conceptual designs.
  • With the supervision of senior engineers, you will be responsible for managing the procurement, final detailed designs, commissioning, and acceptance testing on renewable energy projects.
  • The SCADA & IT systems of these projects may include RTACs, RTUs, plant controllers, network switches, firewalls, annunciators, HMIs and all associated connectivity on wind, solar and battery storage renewable energy projects.

Operations Engineering (Electrical)
  • Assist engineers with electrical troubleshooting, including review of digital fault records, relays, and other operational data for planned and unplanned electrical events.
  • Collaborating with site personnel, contractors, equipment manufacturers & consulting engineers for electrical issues at wind, solar, and battery storage facilities
  • Assist operating facilities with electrical procedure development.
  • Assist in reviewing and organizing as-built site documentation including electrical drawings, schematics, bill of materials, electrical studies, test reports, and relay settings.
  • Assist the engineers with troubleshooting electrical issues affecting generation technology, including wind turbines, solar panels, and battery systems.
  • Contribute to projects aimed at enhancing safety and improving operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with Senior Engineers in performing root cause analyses to identify potential future risks and drive fleet-wide corrective action plans.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Currently enrolled in a 4-year Bachelor's degree program with an expected graduation date between Fall 2027 and Summer 2028.
  • Majoring in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering
  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Demonstrated interest in energy sector

Base Pay

$22 - $27 Hourly

The base pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target salary for the position. Your recruiter can share more about the base pay for this internship opportunity during the hiring process.

Interns may be eligible to contribute to a 401k.
