Role Summary

We are looking for a junior Technical Writer / Business Analyst who can turn complex technical and program information into clear, well-organized documentation and translate stakeholder needs into requirements development teams can act on. This role is ideal for an early-career professional with 2–4 years of experience who has supported government programs, writes exceptionally well, and enjoys working directly with technical teams and customers.

The person in this role will produce and maintain program and system documentation, gather and document business and functional requirements, support meetings and working sessions, and help keep deliverables consistent, accurate, and on schedule. This is a hybrid position based in Tysons, VA, with four days per week onsite. While the role is documentation-focused, we value analysts who stay close to the work and can ask the right questions to get to the underlying requirement.

What the Role Involves

Writing, editing, and maintaining technical and program documentation, including user guides, standard operating procedures, system documentation, training materials, and process narratives.

Gathering, documenting, and refining business, functional, and non-functional requirements in collaboration with stakeholders and development teams.

Creating process flows, workflow diagrams, wireframe descriptions, and other visual aids that clarify how systems and processes work.

Supporting government client deliverables, ensuring documents meet contract requirements, formatting standards, and submission deadlines.

Facilitating and documenting requirements sessions, working groups, and stakeholder meetings, including agendas, notes, action items, and follow-ups.

Maintaining traceability between requirements, design documentation, and test artifacts.

Supporting user acceptance testing by drafting test scenarios, capturing results, and documenting defects.

Reviewing and standardizing existing documentation for accuracy, clarity, version control, and consistency of voice.

Coordinating with engineers, project managers, and government stakeholders to validate content and resolve open questions.

Supporting Agile ceremonies by writing and refining user stories, acceptance criteria, and backlog items.

Contributing to proposal and reporting efforts, including status reports, briefing materials, and slide decks.

Required Experience

2–4 years of professional experience in technical writing, business analysis, or a blended documentation and requirements role.

Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Information Systems, Business, or a related field (equivalent experience considered).

Experience supporting government programs (federal, state, or local) or working in a government contracting environment.

Demonstrated ability to write clearly and concisely for both technical and non-technical audiences.

    Experience in:

Drafting and maintaining requirements documentation and user stories.

Producing user guides, SOPs, and system or process documentation.

       Documenting workflows and business processes.

    Proficiency with:

Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio) and SharePoint.

Jira, Confluence, or equivalent collaboration and tracking tools.

Diagramming tools such as Visio, Lucidchart, or draw.io.

Familiarity with one or more of the following:

Agile / Scrum delivery and ceremonies.

Software development lifecycle (SDLC) documentation practices.

Section 508 accessibility and plain language standards.

Requirements traceability matrices and test documentation.

Basic data analysis or reporting (Excel, dashboards, SQL a plus).

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deliverables and deadlines with limited supervision.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the confidence to interview subject matter experts, present findings, and engage directly with clients.

Ability to work onsite in Tysons, VA four days per week.

U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a government clearance or public trust, as required by the contract.

What We Are Looking For in a Candidate

The best fit will be someone who is:

A strong writer who genuinely cares about clarity, structure, and getting the details right.

Curious and unafraid to ask questions until they understand how something actually works.

Comfortable working with engineers, project managers, and government stakeholders at the same table.

Organized and dependable, with a track record of hitting deliverable deadlines.

Adaptable in a government program environment where priorities and requirements evolve.

Eager to grow into a broader business analysis or product role over time.

Collaborative, coachable, and willing to take feedback and run with it
