Description

Technical Writer, under the direction of the SDI & City of Chicago CDPH team, will work with cross-functional teams to prepare and produce high-quality documentations. The Technical Writer will be responsible for developing clear, concise, and well-structured documentation to support technical and non-technical users. This role requires close collaboration with data scientists, developers, IT engineers, project managers and subject matter experts to translate complex technical concepts into user-friendly content. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of data ETL processes, software development, APIs, IT infrastructure, and cloud computing, along with excellent writing and communication skills.

Documentation Development Create, edit, and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including user guides, data flow diagrams, ETL implementation documentation, system architecture overviews, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Develop content that is accessible to various audiences, from technical professionals to end-users. Ensure documentation is up to date with system changes, new features, and evolving business needs, maintaining version control to track revisions and ensure accuracy. conduct research and interviews to gather technical details from data scientists, IT engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders. Content Simplification & Formatting Translate complex technical jargon into clear, understandable language for diverse audiences. Implement structured writing techniques to maintain consistency and readability. Format content using industry-standard templates, style guides, and publishing tools. Utilize diagrams, flowcharts, and visual aids to enhance comprehension. Document Management & Version Control Maintain version control and ensure proper documentation workflows align with system updates and organizational changes. Utilize documentation management tools such as Git, SharePoint, or OneDrive for collaboration and archiving. Track feedback from users and stakeholders, implementing improvements in documentation over time. Collaboration & Communication Work closely with data scientists, IT engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to gather requirements and validate documentation accuracy. Participate in project meetings to stay informed of changes that require documentation updates. Provide training or guidance on how to access and use technical documentation effectively. Liaise with contractors and third-party vendors as needed to ensure cohesive documentation practices.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $7.25 - $35.00/hr.
