Job Description
This role focuses on designing complex digital products and websites using a user-centered approach from initial research through implementation. The UX Designer leads end-to-end design activities, creates intuitive interfaces for diverse user groups, and ensures that usability, risk mitigation, and compliance considerations are embedded in every solution. The position combines traditional UI/UX design with instructional design, human factors, and user research to improve experiences for patients, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals in regulated and safety-critical environments.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and implement the overall design strategy for digital products and websites, ensuring a cohesive and user-centered experience.
  • Define, refine, and optimize design processes, tools, and workflows to support efficient and high-quality delivery.
  • Lead UX design activities from concept through implementation for multiple digital products and websites, balancing concurrent product needs and priorities.
  • Understand and advocate for both client and end-user needs, incorporating feedback and insights into design decisions.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including researchers, engineers, product managers, clinical experts, and regulatory stakeholders to define business requirements, feature requirements, user scenarios, and use cases.
  • Plan and support user research activities such as user interviews, usability testing, task analysis, and other human factors methods, and translate findings into actionable design improvements.
  • Create UX and design assets including process flows, site maps, conceptual diagrams, wireframes, and high-fidelity mockups to communicate design strategies and detailed interaction behaviors.
  • Present design concepts and solutions clearly and persuasively, explaining the rationale and value behind design decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Work closely with product stakeholders to gain a deep understanding of product goals, constraints, and priorities, and align design solutions with the product roadmap.
  • Provide design leadership and guidance to technical teams, helping to ensure consistent implementation of UX standards and best practices.
  • Manage work within established project timelines and deliver design assets that support ongoing product development and releases.
  • Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and adhere to all physical and digital security practices as part of daily work.

Essential Skills

  • 3 5+ years of experience as a UI/UX Designer, specifically designing complex digital products and interfaces.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end user-centered design processes, from research and concept development through detailed design and implementation.
  • Experience in regulated industries, preferably medical devices, healthcare, life sciences, or other safety-critical environments where usability, risk mitigation, and compliance are critical.
  • Demonstrated skills and interest in user research and human factors, including conducting or supporting user interviews, usability testing, task analysis, and synthesizing insights into design solutions.
  • Ability to design intuitive interfaces for diverse user groups, including patients, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Strong collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams, including researchers, engineers, product managers, clinical experts, and regulatory stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in modern design tools such as Figma and Adobe XD.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to translate complex requirements into clear, usable interfaces.
  • Solid understanding of information architecture and interaction design principles.
  • Ability to present and communicate design decisions effectively, including the value and impact of those decisions on users and business goals.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience or strong interest in healthcare or medical technology, with a passion for improving patient, clinician, or healthcare professional experiences through evidence-based design.
  • Background or familiarity with FDA-regulated products and associated usability and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of IEC usability engineering standards and human factors engineering practices for safety-critical systems.
  • Understanding of clinical workflows and the design of medical device software, including software as a medical device (SaMD).
  • Experience defining and optimizing design processes and tools within product teams.
  • Ability to provide design leadership and guidance to technical teams, promoting best practices in UX and UI design.
  • Commitment to reading and following the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and adhering to physical and digital security practices.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, remote position with a standard schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Work is performed in a digital environment using modern design software such as Figma and Adobe XD, along with standard collaboration tools. The role involves close virtual collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, requiring reliable connectivity and a professional remote workspace.
