Engineering Supervisor - Substation Electrical Design (STE)

We're looking for a strong engineering leader to guide our Substation Electrical Design (STE) team and play a critical role in the design and delivery of our electric substation projects. In this role, you'll do more than manage projects - you'll shape strategy, mentor top technical talent, and ensure our substation infrastructure supports community growth with safety, reliability and compliance at the forefront. This position offers the opportunity to influence long-term system reliability and leave a meaningful mark on both the organization and the communities we serve. You'll work alongside experts who value safety, innovation, and professional growth, while fostering a team culture that attracts and retains top engineering talent.

How You'll Make an Impact
  • As the supervisor of our Substation Electrical Design team, you will:
    • Lead a high-performing team of electrical engineering professionals executing substation electrical protection and controls design, as well as an engineering technical support team responsible for CAD design for electrical, civil/structural, transmission and distribution designs
    • Provide engineering leadership and design oversight for new substations, substation expansions, equipment replacements, system capacity additions, reliability and compliance upgrades, and projects addressing aging infrastructure
    • Drive projects from concept to close out, partnering with the Project Management team to oversee scope, schedule, budget, as built documentation, and final system turnover
    • Plan, prioritize, assign, and review engineering work to support project schedules and organizational commitments; forecast workload and resource needs and balance assignments across the team
    • Navigate complex regulatory and industry challenges, aligning design solutions with internal policies and standards, evolving electric utility industry standards and applicable NERC requirements
    • Ensure engineering excellence by reviewing design documents for safety, reliability, constructability, and cost effectiveness
    • Foster a collaborative work environment and build effective partnerships with System Planning, Operations, Construction, Maintenance, Project Management, and other internal and external stakeholders
    • Champion compliance and documentation quality, ensuring records are complete and audit ready
    • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve substation design standards, specifications, procedures, and engineering practices to promote safe, consistent, efficient, and high-quality designs
    • Coach and develop your team, supporting career growth, engagement, and long term success

What You Bring
  • We're seeking a leader who combines technical depth with people leadership:
    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required; a Master's degree and/or Professional Engineer license strongly valued
    • Progressive experience in substation electrical design, substation design and construction standards, and applicable NERC compliance requirements
    • Proven experience leading, coaching, and developing engineering teams
    • Strong understanding of regulatory environments and utility infrastructure challenges
    • The ability to balance technical rigor with sound judgment, communicate clearly with stakeholders, and empower teams while holding high standards

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (1/3 of the time), and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, or pull objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary only if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other criteria are met.
- Positions in this class typically require talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions within an office working environment
