Job Description:
Automation Engineer - AIaaS

Location: Remote (United States)

Work Type: Contract

Role Overview

An experienced engineer is being sought to join an Automation Engineering team. This team is responsible for providing access to AI tools for all employees, managing the installer and update pipeline, SSO token brokering, per-tool configuration, and coding clients. This is a hands-on engineering position focused on replacing manual workflows with automated solutions. Ideal candidates will have a background in software engineering, low-code/no-code engineering, or AI engineering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the client gateway stack end to end, including the installer, SSO token broker, configuration writer, self-updates, and release notes.
  • Manage third-party desktop integration, including rollout communications and vendor requirement tracking.
  • Maintain and extend coding clients used by engineers, managing settings, policies, and model pickers.
  • Run the internal plugin marketplace, handling publishing, distribution, and support.
  • Handle software packaging and distribution across platforms for reliable installations and upgrades.
  • Integrate clients with the internal LLM gateway, model catalog, and MCP servers.
  • Contribute to the client-side roadmap toward a tool-agnostic client with unified features.
  • Own and maintain setup documentation across all documentation platforms.
  • Design, configure, and maintain Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and integrations.
  • Utilize AI coding platforms as a primary development tool for building, debugging, and deploying solutions.
  • Apply DevOps practices (CI/CD, monitoring, containerization) to ensure system reliability.
  • Participate in the team's escalation group and on-call rotation to triage complex issues.
Required Qualifications

Experience: 5+ years as an IT engineer or in a similar role. This position requires daily hands-on coding and is not a platform or program management role. Experience owning a developer-facing or end-user client platform is necessary, including packaging, distribution, updates, configuration, and support. Experience working with APIs and building automations is also required.

Technical Skills: A working knowledge of source control, containerization, and public cloud infrastructure is required. Familiarity with LLM API gateways, key management (e.g., Portkey), and their access patterns is needed. Candidates should be comfortable running feature-flagged, staged rollouts to a large internal user base (e.g., LaunchDarkly). Hands-on experience with AI coding CLI agents (e.g., Claude Code, Codex) for daily development is essential. Strong written communication skills are necessary for managing documentation and support knowledge bases.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience with major SaaS applications such as Slack, Google Workspace, and Airtable.
