Position OverviewFusion Innovation is seeking a Software Developer to support the design, development, enhancement, and sustainment of mission-critical information systems operating across complex, distributed environments.
In this role, you will work across application development, systems integration, automated delivery, testing, troubleshooting, and production support. You will develop and maintain reliable software services while collaborating closely with infrastructure, network operations, and field engineering teams to support system availability and mission success. The ideal candidate brings hands-on software development experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to support applications throughout the full development and operational lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, enhance, and sustain production software services and components using Java, Scala, and/or C/C++.
- Design and maintain reliable software solutions supporting distributed and operationally critical systems.
- Create and maintain interface documentation, including schemas, service contracts, and versioning strategies.
- Support system integration and participate in integration testing across software and infrastructure components.
- Develop and maintain build and deployment automation using CI/CD pipelines, including GitLab CI/CD.
- Write and maintain unit, integration, and regression tests for critical services and interfaces.
- Collaborate with network operations, infrastructure, and field engineering teams to diagnose and resolve end-to-end system failures.
- Troubleshoot software discrepancies and production issues using logs, metrics, and structured debugging techniques.
- Participate in operational support escalations and on-call rotations as required.
- Follow established configuration management, release management, and change-control practices.
- Support software and platform upgrades while maintaining compatibility across distributed environments.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, design notes, implementation plans, interface documentation, and operational runbooks.
Required Skills- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of relevant software engineering and/or software development experience.
- Strong proficiency in Java, Scala, and/or C/C++ with production-grade development experience.
- Experience developing or supporting distributed, highly available, or operationally critical systems.
- Working knowledge of relational databases, preferably PostgreSQL, and/or NoSQL databases such as MongoDB.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern software development practices, including code reviews, branching, tagging, and release management.
- Experience troubleshooting production software using logs, metrics, and structured debugging methods.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to create clear technical and operational documentation.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with software, infrastructure, network operations, and field engineering teams.
Desired Skills- Experience supporting systems deployed to remote or geographically distributed sites.
- Experience supporting environments with intermittent network connectivity.
- Experience with database or platform migrations, including compatibility support across major transitions such as PostgreSQL to MongoDB.
- Knowledge of secure communications patterns, including TLS, certificates, and key rotation.
- Familiarity with message queues and event-driven architectures.
- Experience with application and system performance profiling, including CPU, memory, and database-query performance.
- Experience collaborating with field engineering and network operations teams.
- Exposure to Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, or similar operational troubleshooting and analytics tools.
Additional DetailsFusion Innovation anticipates the annual base salary for this position will generally range from $100,000 to $215,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including, but not limited to:
- Relevant education, certifications, and training
- Years of direct applicable experience with this work and the customer
- Contract labor category requirements, skill level, contract bill rate, and hours allocation
- Alignment with the position's responsibilities
- Additional specialized skills
