Position OverviewThis role focuses on
training, certifying, and auditing commissioning vendors responsible for executing electrical testing across mission-critical data center infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will be a
subject matter expert in electrical commissioning with strong instructional ability, capable of ensuring vendors meet the rigorous
safety, quality, and operational standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesPrimary Responsibilities- Train and certify commissioning vendors on execution of functional testing scripts for:
- Medium & Low Voltage Power Systems
- UPS Systems
- Generators
- Switchgear
- Power Distribution Units (PDUs)
- Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS)
- Deliver hands-on field training sessions, including:
- Pre-functional testing
- Functional testing
- Integrated systems testing
- Evaluate vendor technicians against defined competency standards and issue certifications
- Identify technical gaps and implement corrective training plans
- Maintain detailed documentation for:
- Training completion
- Certification records
- Evaluation results
- Conduct onsite audits to ensure vendor compliance with:
- Safety protocols
- Quality standards
- Environmental requirements
Secondary Responsibilities- Partner with Learning & Development Program Manager to scale vendor training programs
- Assist in designing and delivering training content, including:
- Instructional materials
- Assessments
- Practical exercises
- Provide subject matter expertise to enhance training curriculum and processes
- Ensure training materials stay aligned with evolving technologies and standards
Required Qualifications- Active Journeyman Electrician License
- 5+ years of experience commissioning electrical systems in:
- Data centers OR
- Mission-critical environments
- Strong hands-on experience with functional testing of data center electrical equipment
- Deep knowledge of medium and low voltage power systems
- Ability to read and interpret:
- Electrical drawings
- Single-line diagrams
- Specifications
- Sequences of operations
- Strong communication skills with ability to train and explain technical concepts effectively
- Experience evaluating technical competencies and providing structured feedback
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in training, mentoring, or instructional roles
- Familiarity with commissioning documentation such as:
- Test plans
- Functional scripts
- Completion reports
- OSHA 30 certification (or equivalent)
- Experience supporting large-scale commissioning programs with multiple vendors
- Knowledge of BMS and/or EPMS platforms
Work Environment- Hybrid work model:
- Onsite presence required approximately 2 weeks per month at the Chicago IL / Portage IN data center location
- Remaining time can be performed remotely (work from home)
- Role includes:
- Hands-on field training within active data center environments
- Interaction with commissioning vendors and cross-functional teams
- Occasional extended onsite hours based on project phases or training schedules
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Portage, IN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
