Technical Scrum Master (Java)

Location: Hybrid On-site 2 days per week minimum (local candidates only)

Job Summary

We are seeking a Technical Scrum Master who can lead Agile delivery while remaining hands-on with Java development. This is a hybrid player-coach role where you will spend approximately 80% of your time leading Scrum ceremonies and coaching the team, and 20% contributing to backend development. Your technical expertise will help remove complex impediments, guide engineering best practices, and ensure high-quality delivery.

This role is ideal for a senior Java developer or technical lead who has formally served as a Scrum Master and enjoys owning both team agility and technical execution.

Key Responsibilities

Agile Leadership

• Lead all Scrum ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives

• Remove technical and process impediments to maintain delivery momentum

• Partner with the Product Owner on backlog refinement and prioritization

• Track and improve Agile metrics such as velocity, cycle time, and burndown

• Coach the team on Agile principles, DevOps practices, and continuous improvement

• Manage all phases of the SDLC from requirements through deployment and maintenance

• Oversee testing strategies including unit, integration, and UAT

• Support and manage CI/CD pipelines using GitHub, GitLab, or Jenkins

Technical Execution (Java)

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java 17/21+ and Spring Boot

• Contribute to microservices-based architectures using Hibernate/JPA

• Practice and promote TDD, code reviews, and strong Definition of Done standards

• Support and optimize CI/CD pipelines

• Participate in architecture discussions and technical decision-making

Required Qualifications

• CSM or PSM I/II certification (mandatory)

• 5+ years of software development experience

• 3+ years in a Scrum Master, Technical Lead, or hybrid role

• Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, Microservices

• Advanced experience with Jira and Confluence

• Hands-on DevOps experience with Git, Maven/Gradle, Docker, and Kubernetes

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with React or Angular

• Cloud experience (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform)

• Familiarity with SAFe or Kanban

• Strong conflict resolution, facilitation, and communication skills

Education

Bachelor s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

Additional Notes

• This is not a pure Scrum Master role hands-on Java experience is required

• Hybrid schedule is mandatory; candidates must be local and able to work on-site twice per week
