Business Architect & Information Modeling Consultant
Engagement Overview
Seeking an experienced consultant to support a large-scale modernization and business testing initiative by transforming existing business process knowledge, journey documentation, testing assets, and operational information into structured, reusable, and measurable information models.
The primary objective of this engagement is not to build reporting tools, create databases, or develop Power BI dashboards. Instead, the consultant will help the organization identify, organize, and structure the information needed to support test planning, test execution, coverage analysis, readiness measurement, and future automation.
The consultant will work closely with business SMEs, testing teams, program leadership, and process consultants to determine what information should be captured, how it should be organized, how relationships should be represented, and how the resulting data can support planning and decision making.
This individual must excel at converting large amounts of complex business and testing information into practical frameworks that can be consistently maintained and used across the program.
Primary Responsibilities
Assess Existing Information Assets
  • Review journey runs, process maps, testing assets, business procedures, execution results, planning documents, and supporting artifacts.
  • Evaluate how information is currently captured, organized, and maintained.
  • Identify gaps, inconsistencies, duplication, and opportunities for standardization.
  • Assess whether existing information supports meaningful coverage analysis, readiness assessment, and planning activities.
Define Information Models and Taxonomies
Develop practical frameworks for organizing and classifying information related to:
  • Business capabilities
  • Journey families
  • Journey runs
  • Roles and personas
  • Business events and triggers
  • Business outcomes
  • Lifecycle stages
  • Integrations
  • Systems
  • Business rules
  • Data conditions
  • Operational scenarios
Create standards that allow information to be captured consistently regardless of journey or business area.
Establish Traceability Frameworks
Define relationships between key testing and business concepts so the organization can understand:
  • Which business capabilities are exercised by a journey run
  • Which roles participate in a scenario
  • Which integrations are validated
  • Which business outcomes are proven
  • Which lifecycle stages have coverage
  • Which business rules are exercised
  • Which risks are mitigated through testing
Develop approaches that make business coverage understandable and measurable.
Enable Coverage Analytics and Readiness Measurement
Work with business and testing leadership to identify the information required to answer questions such as:
  • What capabilities have been validated?
  • What capabilities remain untested?
  • What integrations have sufficient coverage?
  • What operational scenarios are missing?
  • What testing remains before a capability can be considered ready?
  • What evidence supports a readiness decision?
Recommend structures that support objective, repeatable measurement.
Support Test Planning and Execution Maturity
Help define the information needed to support:
  • Test run planning
  • Resource planning
  • Environment planning
  • Scenario selection
  • Coverage analysis
  • Gap identification
  • Test execution reporting
Create frameworks that reduce manual analysis and improve consistency in planning decisions.
Establish Standards for Future Automation
Partner with program leadership to identify information that should be captured in a structured manner to support future automation initiatives.
Recommend approaches for:
  • Metadata management
  • Classification standards
  • Reusable reference data
  • Business rules
  • Traceability relationships
Help ensure information captured today can support future reporting, planning, and automation efforts.
Required Experience
Required
  • 8+ years of experience in information modeling, business analysis, process improvement, business intelligence enablement, knowledge management, or related disciplines.
  • Experience organizing complex business information into reusable frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and systems-thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify patterns, relationships, and dependencies across large sets of business information.
  • Experience working directly with business stakeholders and subject matter experts.
  • Ability to translate complex concepts into practical structures that can be maintained by operational teams.
Preferred
  • Large transformation or modernization programs.
  • Business Process Management (BPM) environments.
  • Testing transformation or testing maturity initiatives.
  • Traceability framework development.
  • Reporting and analytics enablement.
  • Financial services or other highly regulated and highly integrated business environments.

Desired Characteristics
Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to:
  • Rapidly understand unfamiliar business domains.
  • Identify information gaps and missing relationships.
  • Ask insightful questions that uncover hidden dependencies.
  • Think in terms of classifications, patterns, and reusable structures.
  • Balance business needs with practical implementation considerations.
  • Create order from large volumes of existing information.

What Success Looks Like After Six Months
By the end of the engagement:
Structured Test Intelligence Framework
The organization has a common structure for organizing:
  • Business capabilities
  • Journey families
  • Journey runs
  • Roles
