Senior Backend Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in Fremont, CA that is seeking a Backend Software Engineer to design and build scalable distributed systems that power critical business applications.

Summary:
This role focuses on backend services, APIs, and data systems supporting high-volume, real-time applications across the platform. This team builds systems responsible for customer data, order processing, inventory, and platform integrations.

Key Responsibilities:
* Design and develop scalable backend services and distributed systems
* Build and maintain REST APIs and service-oriented architectures
* Develop microservices to support high-throughput, real-time applications
* Work with SQL and NoSQL databases to design efficient data models
* Implement messaging systems and asynchronous workflows
* Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code (unit + integration tests)
* Monitor system performance, troubleshoot production issues, and improve reliability
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver end-to-end features
* Continuously improve system scalability, availability, and performance

REQUIREMENTS:
* BS/MS in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
* Strong experience with backend languages such as Go, Python, Java, or C#
* Expertise in REST API development
* Experience with microservices/distributed systems architecture
* Experience working with databases (SQL or NoSQL)
* Familiarity with message queue systems/event-driven architectures
* Strong understanding of testing practices (unit + integration)

Nice to Have:
* Experience with Kafka, Debezium, Elasticsearch
* Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes
* Experience with GraphQL or gRPC
* Exposure to AI/agent workflow systems
* Experience in Agile/Scrum environments

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
