Job Summary

The Process Engineering Specialist is responsible for providing technical support in the design, development, and implementation of manufacturing processes and systems. Working closely with engineers and other cross-functional teams, the technician assists in translating design concepts into practical manufacturing solutions. This role involves hands-on involvement in prototype development, testing, and process optimization to ensure efficient and reliable manufacturing operations.

Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions
  • Prototype Development: Assist in the construction and assembly of prototypes for new products or product enhancements. Follow design specifications and instructions provided by engineers to build prototype models using various tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Testing and Evaluation: Conduct tests and experiments on prototype models to evaluate performance, functionality, and manufacturability of new designs intended for production implementation. Record and analyze test data to identify areas for improvement and refinement in the design and manufacturing process.
  • Process Support: Provide technical support in the development and optimization of manufacturing processes. Assist in the setup and operation of equipment and machinery used in production, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and quality standards.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of proposed design changes, test results, and process parameters. Prepare reports and summaries of findings, highlighting key insights and recommendations for process improvement.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other stakeholders to troubleshoot issues and implement design modifications. Participate in cross-functional team meetings to contribute technical expertise and insights into manufacturing-related discussions.
  • Tooling and Equipment: Perform initial evaluations of manufacturing equipment and tools to ensure optimal performance and reliability. Identify and report any equipment issues to appropriate personnel. Assist with the setup process of new tooling.
  • Training and Knowledge Transfer: Provide training and support to production personnel on new processes, equipment operation, and safety procedures. Share technical knowledge and best practices to enhance the skills and capabilities of manufacturing staff.
  • Installation and Integration: Install, test, and integrate avionics systems, including navigation, communication, and instrumentation equipment, into aircraft. Ensure proper wiring, routing, and connection of electrical components according to engineering drawings and manufacturer specifications. Collaborate with engineers and other technicians to resolve installation challenges and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing manufacturing efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Suggest and implement innovative solutions to address challenges and optimize manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

  • 2-year associate's degree and minimum 2 years direct industry experience. Aerospace, Manufacturing, A&P, Industrial or Machine Technology degrees preferred, or license or equivalent combination experience.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a technician or technical support role.
  • Hands-on experience with tools and equipment used in prototype development and manufacturing processes. Basic understanding of mechanical principles, materials properties, and manufacturing techniques.
  • Proficiency in reading technical drawings, schematics, and engineering specifications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) software is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and processes.
