Summary

Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for a Scientist I for a contract assignment with one of our premier Pharmaceutical clients in Santa Clara, CA.

Responsibilities :
  • Laboratory Execution
    • Execute laboratory experiments following established protocols and procedures
    • Operate automated liquid-handling and sequencing instrumentation.
    • Perform molecular biology techniques including PCR, qPCR, nucleic acid extraction, and library preparation
    • Prepare reagents, buffers, and samples in accordance with SOPs
    • Support assay optimization experiments under direction of senior scientists
    • Conduct routine testing to evaluate assay performance and reproducibility
    • Troubleshoot routine experimental issues and escalate complex problems as needed
  • Data & Documentation
    • Accurately record experimental methods, materials, and results in laboratory notebooks (electronic or paper)
    • Analyze data using established tools and summarize findings
    • Prepare technical summaries and contribute to reports and presentations
    • Assist in drafting and revising SOPs and technical documents
    • Maintain traceability of materials and documentation within design-controlled processes
    • Support documentation requirements for Design History Files (DHF)
  • Quality & Compliance
    • Perform work in compliance with ISO 13485, QSR, and internal quality systems
    • Follow established laboratory safety policies and OSHA guidelines
    • Participate in design control documentation activities as assigned
    • Ensure accuracy, quality, and timeliness of experimental results
  • Lab Operations
    • Maintain laboratory equipment and assist with calibration checks
    • Manage reagent inventory and ensure proper storage
    • Participate in routine lab maintenance and organization
    • Support cross-functional teams by providing experimental data as requested
Required Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related field
  • 1-5 years of relevant laboratory experience required.
  • Hands-on experience with PCR and/or NGS workflows
  • Foundational understanding of molecular biology and biochemistry principles
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills
  • Ability to follow established procedures with attention to detail
  • Essential Functions
    • Requires the ability to perform the following essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation:
    • Perform laboratory bench work for extended periods of time
    • Stand and/or sit for prolonged durations
    • Use hands and fingers to operate laboratory equipment and computer systems
    • Lift and carry laboratory materials up to 25 pounds
    • Work with biological materials and chemical reagents following established safety protocols
    • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
    • Maintain visual acuity required to perform laboratory tasks and analyze data

Preferred Skills:
  • Exposure to reagent or assay development
  • Experience working in a regulated laboratory environment (ISO/QSR)
  • Familiarity with automated liquid-handling systems
  • Basic understanding of bioinformatics or data analysis tools
