Senior Software Engineer

Job Type: Long Term Contract

Location: New York, NY

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a collaborative engineering team focused on building high-performance, scalable, and reliable backend systems in a large enterprise environment. This role will contribute to architecture decisions, drive engineering best practices, mentor team members, and help deliver robust services that support critical business operations.

The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in Java-based backend development, cloud-native technologies, distributed systems, and modern software engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-availability backend applications and services.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to build stable, secure, and performant enterprise solutions.
  • Lead technical architecture discussions, planning sessions, and design reviews.
  • Author and provide feedback on technical proposals, system designs, and root cause analyses.
  • Establish and promote engineering standards, best practices, and quality initiatives.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and provide support during production incidents.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and drive resolution efforts.
  • Mentor and support engineers through technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of development, deployment, and operational processes.


Requirements

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
  • 5+ years of experience designing backend architectures and delivering production-ready backend applications.
  • Proven experience supporting large-scale, highly available backend services and JVM-based applications.
  • Strong proficiency in Java and experience developing RESTful APIs and services.
  • Understanding of asynchronous programming concepts, including events, callbacks, promises, async/await, threading, and concurrency.
  • Strong foundation in computer science principles, including data structures, algorithms, databases, and software design patterns.
  • Experience with AWS services such as: S3, DynamoDB, SNS, SQS,
  • Experience with messaging and streaming technologies such as: Kafka, Kinesis, SQS
  • Experience working with relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Knowledge of source control systems and CI/CD practices, including Git.
  • Experience with build and deployment tools such as Jenkins and Docker.
  • Experience using observability and monitoring platforms, such as Datadog.
  • Knowledge of caching technologies and distributed system performance optimization.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, learn new technologies quickly, and solve complex technical problems.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience working within cloud-native and microservices-based architectures.
  • Strong troubleshooting and production support experience.
  • Ability to influence technical direction and engineering best practices across teams.
