we are currently looking for qualified candidates for the Applications System Programmer I , Contract to Hire role with our client. This opportunity begins as a 6-month contract position, with the possibility of extension to one year and the potential to transition into a permanent role if things go well.
JOB SUMMARY
Develops, tests and implements software programs and scripts as needed to meet business requirements. Performs detailed testing, analysis, debugging and performance improvements on new and existing programs. Receives technical assignments and guidance from IT Applications Manager and senior development staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Writes new programs/modifies existing programs to meet the business requirements.
· Extracts and manipulates data in different formats. Validates the extract/manipulated data. Provides requested data to business units, actuaries, and vendors in a timely manner.
· Maintains and manages data files imports and exports and the related IT operation processes, including the automation of file transfer.
· Prepares standard and ad hoc reports to meet business needs. Automates the report generation processes.
· Performs data extracts supporting mailings and data analysis as required by business units and vendors.
· Prepares technical documentation to describe all program development, logic, coding, and corrections.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and 2 years of related experience.
· A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS
· Knowledge of Postgres database, PL/pgSQL best practices.
· Development experience with AWS Aurora PostgreSQL
· Experience with AWS cloud resources (such as S3).
· Experience with Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) such as DBeaver.
· Experience with text editor (such as Ultraedit).
· Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access database).
· Knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and operational support of production applications.
· Functional knowledge of Taft-Hartley business processes (such as Eligibility, Claims, and Pension) a plus.
· Experience with Java development a plus.
· Familiarity with Jira and Confluence a plus.
· Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships with co-workers and vendors.
· Skill in providing high quality customer service, including assessing and resolving customer questions and needs while adhering to customer service guidelines and procedures.
· Ability to comprehend process and apply both verbal and written skills appropriate to the job.
· Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
· Ability to prioritize and work independently on projects with minimal supervision.
· Ability to translate business needs into technical specifications.
· Ability to analyze and troubleshoot technical issues, detects errors, determine causes, and make corrections as appropriate.
