Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Business Intelligence Developer to lead the development and delivery of critical reports and dashboards for Federal Government clients. In this remote role, you will leverage your expertise with Microsoft Power BI and cloud-based analytics tools to transform complex data into actionable insights that drive decision-making at the federal level.

As a Business Intelligence Developer, you will work directly with key stakeholders to understand their data needs and translate requirements into high-performance visualizations and reports. You will play a crucial role in modernizing legacy reporting systems by reengineering existing solutions to leverage Azure cloud data services. Duties and Responsibilities

• Work directly with key stakeholders to understand data needs, document report requirements, and provide ongoing user support
• Design, develop, and implement operational and analytic reports, visualizations, dashboards, and data extracts utilizing Microsoft Power BI and other query tools
• Reengineer existing Power BI and SSRS reports and dashboards to source data from Azure data lake, Synapse Analytics, and Azure SQL Managed Instance
• Analyze current ETL logic and data sources such as SQL Server databases and SSAS cubes to understand required data transformations
• Analyze report performance and implement performance tuning, including visual components, DAX queries, Power Query, data model, and caching
• Utilize Azure cloud data services such as data lake (ADLS), data warehouse, Synapse Analytics, and Analysis Services to design optimal reporting solutions
• Collaborate with business analysts, data modelers, data architects, and data engineers to support design and implementation of data models and transformations
• Design, develop, and implement processes and functions to ensure data quality in reports and analytics
• Support Power BI administration tasks, including workspaces, access controls, apps, gateway and cloud data source connections, and capacity monitoring
• Ensure alignment with data governance policies, processes, and procedures
• Incorporate AI/ML techniques and functions (e.g., Power BI Copilot) to enhance data processing and reporting
• Assist the Help Desk with problem and incident management
• Assist with end user training and documentation
• Actively support Agile DevOps processes, including Program Increment planning
• Engage in continuous learning to increase relevant skills and stay current with emerging technologies

Required Experience/Skills

• Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of prior relevant experience
• At least 4 years of demonstrated experience delivering reports, visualizations, and analytics using Power BI, including Power BI Cloud Service, Power BI Desktop, and Power BI Report Server
• At least 4 years of experience working directly with business end users to understand requirements, develop reports, and provide ongoing support
• Experience with the Microsoft Business Intelligence Stack (Power BI, SSAS, SSRS, and SSIS)
• Experience tuning report performance including optimizing DAX, Power Query, and data models
• Experience with SQL databases (OLTP, OLAP), flat file data sources, multi-dimensional models, T-SQL, DAX/MDX, and Power Query
• Understanding of report development using Azure-based data services (Synapse Analytics)
• Experience in Agile projects working with multi-functional teams
• Strong analytical capabilities with proven problem-solving skills
• Detail-oriented with ability to support multiple projects and tasks simultaneously
• Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning
• Ability to work well in a team environment and/or work independently with limited supervision
• Ability to successfully obtain a government-issued Public Trust clearance

• Experience working on Federal government projects
• Experience delivering reports in law, HR, financial management, inventory, property, or management domains
• Power BI and Microsoft Azure data analytics related certifications
• Experience supporting data governance initiatives
• Experience with Design Thinking and Human Centered Design methodologies
• Experience developing persona-driven solutions
