Job Description: Lead AWS DevOps Engineer
Preferred: Austin, TX
Hybrid: 3 days/week in-office preferred
Overview:
A strategic and hands-on Environment Strategy & Integration Lead to drive the completion of a critical enterprise initiative involving multi-environment orchestration, third-party integration scaling, and CI/CD automation across cloud and on-prem workloads.
Key Responsibilities:
Own and drive the end-to-end strategy to build scalable, parallel, and consistent environment patterns across both cloud and on-premises platforms.
Lead the design and implementation of dynamic routing patterns for third-party integrations (e.g., Adobe Sign, Salesforce) to support multiple environments using a single shared external QA endpoint.
Build and roll out repeatable environment configuration patterns to support feature branch testing, mergers & acquisitions integration, and upstream integration testing.
Partner with DevSecOps, AppDev, Data, and Platform teams to solve long-standing CI/CD bottlenecks, environment drift, and external service routing complexities.
Assess and remediate hardcoded configurations, enabling full version-controlled, infrastructure-as-code adoption across environments.
Coordinate efforts to establish and normalize environment mapping for data foundations, legacy applications, and container/VM-based workloads.
Lead a small team (or influence cross-functional SMEs) to design, pilot, and productionize patterns and inner-source tooling that supports self-service environment creation and deployment.
Support the transition away from Octopus Deploy to GitHub Actions, where applicable, in collaboration with CI/CD stakeholders.
Work closely with technical and business leaders to gain alignment, socialize solutions, and take ownership of execution through to delivery.
Must-Have Skills:
Cloud Platform Expertise:
Deep experience with AWS, including VPCs, IAM, Route53, networking, and environment management.
Experience with Terraform for infrastructure automation.
Hybrid Deployment Proficiency:
Comfortable working with both containerized workloads (EKS, ECS) and VM-based/legacy applications in on-prem data centers.
Ability to modernize on-prem deployments and integrate with cloud-native tooling.
CI/CD Strategy & Implementation:
Proven experience in defining CI/CD pipelines across mixed environments.
Strong understanding of GitHub Actions, with working knowledge of Octopus Deploy and strategies for phased migration.
Environment Management & Routing Design:
Ability to design and implement routing patterns for third-party integrations across multiple parallel environments.
Understanding of feature branch environment automation and n/n+1 component testing strategies.
Communication & Cross-Team Leadership:
Strong facilitation skills to coordinate across multiple teams and VPs.
Ability to distill complex problems, define actionable strategies, and gain alignment across stakeholders.
Nice-to-Have Skills:
Experience supporting mergers & acquisitions, especially with system consolidation and environment parallelization.
Familiarity with configuration management challenges in legacy systems.
Previous success in taking enterprise-scale environment transformation projects to the finish line.
Experience with inner-sourcing practices or shared platform tooling rollouts.
Work Model & Expectations:
Candidate should be located in or willing to relocate to Austin, TX
In-office presence 2 days/week preferred initially to build relationships and gather undocumented tribal knowledge.
Long-term hybrid flexibility possible based on delivery and established trust.
Mandatory skillset
GitHub Actions experience at least 1 year of experience.
Knows what a Git branching strategy is andn/n+1 component testing strategies.
Team Handling experience
Participated in cross-functional planning projects Examples: capacity planning, cost analysis, evaluation of new technology or solutions, create a pilot project to help with adoption of a new technology.
Worked with business and technical stake holders to align business and tech goals.
Candidate should be able to work with many stakeholders and be able to lead in creation and execution of different strategies which requires them to plan improvements and lead in their execution.
EDUCATION
Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience.
