The Desktop & Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the design, administration, and support of desktop computing platforms across the Operational Technology (OT) environment. This role serves as the technical lead for endpoint management, operating system deployment, software packaging, endpoint security, and workstation lifecycle management.

In addition to desktop engineering responsibilities, the position participates as a member of the OTRC Tier 2 support team, providing operational support for OT infrastructure including servers, virtualization platforms, Active Directory, and network services. The ideal candidate possesses strong troubleshooting skills, a solid infrastructure foundation, and the aptitude to expand into broader systems and network administration responsibilities.

Desktop Engineering & Endpoint Management
  • Serve as the primary engineer for workstation and endpoint management platforms.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve desktop operating system standards and configurations.
  • Administer endpoint management solutions including software deployment, patching, configuration management, and compliance reporting.
  • Package, test, and deploy software applications across OT environments.
  • Manage workstation lifecycle activities including hardware standards, refresh planning, imaging, deployment, and retirement.
  • Support endpoint security technologies and ensure adherence to cybersecurity requirements.
  • Evaluate and implement enhancements that improve endpoint reliability, performance, and user experience.


Infrastructure & Tier 2 Support
  • Participate in the OTRC Tier 2 team supporting OT infrastructure and operational technology environments.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve escalated incidents involving servers, Active Directory, virtualization platforms, networking, and enterprise infrastructure services.
  • Assist with administration and support of Windows Server, VMware, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and related technologies.
  • Support network infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless connectivity solutions.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.
  • Participate in operational support activities including maintenance, upgrades, and incident response.


Project Delivery & Operational Readiness
  • Support infrastructure projects from design through operational handoff.
  • Assist with deployment of new systems, hardware, software, and infrastructure solutions.
  • Ensure solutions are documented, operationalized, and supportable before transition to production support.
  • Contribute to lifecycle management efforts for desktop and infrastructure technologies.
  • Coordinate with engineering and operations teams to execute upgrades, migrations, and technology refresh initiatives.


Process Improvement & Automation
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, standards, procedures, and knowledge articles.
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks using scripting and endpoint management tools.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, efficiency, and supportability.
  • Assist in developing operational processes that improve service quality and reduce support burden.


Collaboration & Support
  • Partner with Product Owners, Platform Engineers, cybersecurity teams, and field personnel to deliver technology solutions.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to Tier 1 support personnel when appropriate.
  • Participate in on-call support rotations and critical incident response activities as required.
  • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders regarding issues, risks, and project status.


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in Desktop Engineering, Endpoint Management, Systems Administration, or Infrastructure Support.
  • Experience administering Windows desktop operating systems in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience with endpoint management technologies such as MECM/SCCM, Intune, Workspace ONE, or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and Windows Server fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as VMware.
  • Foundational understanding of TCP/IP networking concepts, routing, switching, and firewalls.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting Operational Technology (OT), industrial, or critical infrastructure environments.
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation.
  • Experience with monitoring and management platforms such as SolarWinds or SCOM.
  • Experience with server administration and virtualization platforms.
  • Knowledge of networking technologies and protocols.
  • Experience supporting endpoint security and vulnerability remediation initiatives.
