Job Summary

We are currently seeking a Software Engineering Intern - Front End Developer for Summer 2026 (May 18 - early Aug). This position is 100% onsite located in Arlington, VA. The application deadline is Feb 16, 2026.

The qualified candidate will become an integral member of a team responsible for the development of software applications to support internal research and development projects, commercial projects, and potentially, government contract work in homeland security. The candidate will provide engineering support to technical staff and managers including the design and development GUI front ends and software tools to assist in these tasks.

Responsibilities

• Works with other team members to design, build, modify, and implement software applications in support of Battelle business processes
• Translate user requirements into concepts for information systems solutions.
• Support data management actives by creating database schemas, process data, and perform data validation.
• Applies standard practices to analyze programs and formulate logic, prepare flowcharting, perform coding, and test/debug programs.
• Prepares and obtains approval of system and programming documentation
• Reviews system requirements and business processes.
• Works independently and as a member of a multi-functional, dynamic team
• Additional duties include supporting test and evaluation of transportation security systems

Key Qualifications

• Must be currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or other relevant software development discipline.
• Familiarity with object-oriented concepts, principles and programming.
• Must have at least two years of college coursework completed by the start of the internship.
• Knowledge of object-oriented principles and programming techniques.
• Must be a self-starter, adaptable, able to dynamically change focus while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
• Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing web applications with HTML, CSS, ASP.NET, JavaScript, jQuery.
• Experience developing desktop applications using Microsoft Visual Studio WinForms or WPF.
• Experience consuming web service data.
• Experience developing custom graphics.
• Experience with icon development.
