Senior UI/UX Developer & Design System Architect

Overview
We are seeking a Senior UI/UX Developer & Design System Architect in Des Moines, Iowa with strong experience in building enterprise design systems, deep accessibility expertise, and excellent technical communication skills. This role focuses on developing a scalable, accessible component library and driving WCAG compliant front-end practices across multiple applications.

The ideal candidate excels in accessibility-first UI development, scalable design system architecture, and clear technical communication. They collaborate effectively, guide teams on best practices, and ensure consistent, compliant, and reusable front-end solutions across applications.

Key Responsibilities

Design System Architecture: Build and maintain a reusable enterprise design system, leveraging frameworks like USWDS or similar component systems.
Accessible UI Development: Create accessible, scalable components using HTML, SASS, and Angular, ensuring WCAG 2.1 AAA compliance.
Storybook Documentation: Develop and document components in Storybook for team collaboration and consistency.
Accessibility Leadership: Implement accessibility best practices, conduct accessibility reviews, and support accessibility testing workflows.
Cross-Team Collaboration: Mentor developers on accessibility and design system standards; participate in code reviews and UX discussions.
Front-End Support: Ensure consistent UI implementation and accessibility across multiple modern applications.

Required Qualifications

5+ years of front-end development experience.
Proven experience building enterprise design systems from the ground up.
Strong knowledge of WCAG 2.1/AAA, semantic HTML, ARIA, and accessibility tools.
Proficiency in HTML, SASS, and Angular.
Experience using Storybook for component development and documentation.
Solid understanding of UX and accessible interface design.
Familiarity with USWDS or similar systems.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with .NET, MVC, or SQL.
Understanding of backend integrations within a .NET environment.
