What you will do Johnson Controls, Global Fire Detection Products, has an exciting opportunity for an Electronics Engineering Manager to be located at the R&D facility in Westford, MA. You will be responsible for the design and development of electronic hardware. The candidate needs to possess a high level of technical expertise in electrical design, mechanical packaging, and project leadership in the development of hardware products, and should demonstrate technical leadership and creativity. The candidate will need to develop in-depth knowledge of our product lines. The Electronics Engineering Manager is responsible for the design, development, testing, support, and customization of hardware, enforcing consistent standards, and ensuring that the output of the group is of high quality, and that schedules are maintained across projects. This is a hands-on position that involves both leading and active participation in engineering design. This position is based onsite in Westford, MA. Candidates must be commuting distance, or able to relocate. Johnson Controls offers various relocation packages depending on your needs.
How you will do it - Lead and mentor junior staff and provide technical and procedural direction.
- Manage logistics of subordinate employees and help set clear goals in line with corporate objectives.
- Help to continually optimize internal processes and procedures. Lead and actively participate within design teams.
- Assume overall technical project management responsibility for developing approved hardware-based products as per negotiated product/market specifications.
- Manage projects by taking marketing specifications converting to an engineering specification and then to a detailed measurable project plan.
- Perform assigned product development and technical project management activities within agreed upon schedule, quality, cost, and performance goals.
- Continually search for and evaluate relevant new technologies and products.
- Works closely with Product Management and R&D management to determine product strategies and direction.
- Work with Program Management within the overall New Product Introduction process.
- Participate in and contribute to the local ISO 9001 management team.
- Be able to think and operate at both a micro-level (e.g. hardware design, software design, packaging etc.) and a macro-level (e.g. system, interconnect strategies, etc.).
- Work in a team product development environment.
What you will need
Required - BS Electrical, Electronics or Computer Engineering
- 8+ years' of electronics design/engineering experience, analog and digital design, component level design
- 3+ years of experience leading teams, training, mentoring and coaching
- Ability to manage large, global complex engineering projects focused on new product development, R&D and continuation engineering
Preferred- Small signal design
- Power design
