Job Description:
The Azure Datacenter Lab Engineer is responsible for day‑to‑day operation, maintenance, and support of Azure hardware and software lab environments used for hardware qualification, performance validation, and pre‑production testing. This role ensures lab infrastructure is stable, compliant, and ready for engineering and validation workloads, working closely with Azure Core engineers, hardware validation teams, and program managers.
Responsibilities:
· Install, rack, stack, cable, and provision servers, storage, and networking equipment in Azure datacenter lab environments
· Perform hardware installation, replacement, diagnostics, and smart‑hands support within lab and datacenter spaces
· Deploy, re‑image, and maintain operating systems on lab servers and devices
· Configure, manage, and maintain virtual machines and lab test environments
· Support Windows Server and virtualization platforms used for Azure lab operations
· Monitor lab infrastructure health and respond to hardware, OS, or connectivity alerts
· Execute firmware, BIOS, and driver updates on lab hardware and networking devices
· Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and lab readiness checks
· Provide physical and logical networking support, including cabling, port validation, and connectivity troubleshooting
· Troubleshoot hardware, operating system, virtualization, and network issues
· Prepare and maintain lab environments for platform validation and pre‑production testing
· Support environment resets, repro builds, and test reruns during validation cycles
· Coordinate with engineering and operations teams to ensure lab availability and stability
· Maintain lab documentation, runbooks, asset inventories, and configuration records
· Adhere to change management, safety, security, and compliance requirements
Qualifications:
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field OR equivalent hands‑on datacenter or lab experience
- 5+ years of experience supporting datacenter or engineering lab environments
- Hands‑on experience with datacenter hardware, including servers, racks, PDUs, cabling, and switches
- Strong working knowledge of Windows Server and system provisioning
- Experience with virtualization technologies and virtual machine management (e.g., Hyper‑V or equivalent)
- Basic to intermediate networking knowledge, including IP addressing, VLANs, and physical cabling
- Proven ability to troubleshoot hardware, operating system, virtualization, and connectivity issues
- Experience working in production‑like, change‑controlled environments
- Ability to perform on‑site lab and datacenter work, including equipment installation and physical handling
- Strong documentation, communication, and operational discipline skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting cloud platform labs (compute, storage, networking, virtualization)
- Exposure to hardware validation, SKU onboarding, or pre‑production testing environments
- Familiarity with firmware, BIOS, and driver lifecycle management
- Experience collaborating with engineering, validation, or automation teams
- Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ‑900) or equivalent cloud fundamentals certification
- CompTIA A+, Server+, or Network+ certifications
- Cisco CCNA or equivalent networking certification
- Experience working in globally distributed teams or multi‑site lab environments
Operational & Professional Skills
- Strong problem‑solving and root‑cause analysis skills.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures, safety guidelines, and security controls.
- Experience maintaining documentation, runbooks, and asset records.
- Comfortable working onsite in datacenter or lab facilities, including physical tasks such as lifting, cabling, and equipment installation

- Strong organizational skills with a focus on meeting deadlines and achieving project goals.
