Position: Full Stack Engineer (Backend Leaning)

Location: Bentonville, AR

Contract-to-Hire: Looking to convert full-time within 3-6 months

Rate: $55/hr on Apex W2

Strong preference for previous Apex Systems consultants or candidates with prior Walmart or Sam’s Club experience.

The FE/Full stack will be changing to a more BE heavy positions. The ideal candidate will be more backend heavy. 70% BE / 30% Frontend. 3 openings!

Candidates who are open to relocating during the contract period will be given higher priority.

Role Details

• Engagement: Contract-to-Hire (CTH)
• Work Location: Ideally Bentonville, AR, day one, but open to remote start
• Relocation: Must verbally commit to relocating upon full-time conversion
• Candidates willing to relocate sooner will be prioritized

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Strong Full Stack Engineer with a backend-focused skill set
• Approximately 60/40 Full Stack, with a slight emphasis toward backend development
• Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot microservices
• Experience building and supporting distributed systems and APIs
• Kafka experience preferred
• Frontend experience with React or Angular
• Experience with product enhancements, debugging, performance optimization, and refactoring
• Background supporting large-scale, customer-facing applications preferred

Role Overview

• Sam''s Club is seeking Full Stack Engineers to join the team responsible for building and enhancing the My Sam''s Club platform. This role will focus heavily on backend service development while also contributing to modern frontend applications.
• The ideal candidate will have strong experience developing Java/Spring Boot microservices, designing and consuming APIs, and supporting distributed systems. Candidates should also be comfortable contributing to frontend development using React or Angular.
• This position involves developing new features, modernizing existing applications, improving system reliability, debugging production issues, and supporting large-scale consumer-facing platforms used by millions of customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java Spring Boot microservices
• Build scalable and resilient backend services supporting customer-facing applications
• Develop and enhance frontend features using React or Angular
• Design and consume RESTful APIs and service integrations
• Participate in product enhancements, new feature development, and platform modernization initiatives
• Debug and resolve production issues across frontend and backend systems
• Refactor and improve existing code for scalability, maintainability, and performance
• Collaborate with product managers, UX teams, architects, and fellow engineers
• Contribute to architecture discussions and technical solution design
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and sprint planning

Required Qualifications

Backend (Primary Focus)

• Strong experience with Java
• Strong experience building applications using Spring Boot
• Experience developing and supporting microservice architectures
• Experience designing and consuming REST APIs
• Strong understanding of distributed systems principles
• Experience troubleshooting and debugging production applications
• Familiarity with database technologies and data access patterns

Frontend

• Experience with React or Angular
• Strong JavaScript and/or TypeScript fundamentals
• Experience integrating frontend applications with backend APIs
• Familiarity with modern frontend architecture and component-based development

General

• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
• Strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills
• Ability to work across the full software development lifecycle

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience with Kafka or other event-driven messaging platforms
• Experience with cloud environments (Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or AWS)
• CI/CD pipeline experience
• Experience working with large-scale consumer-facing applications
• Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience modernizing legacy applications
• Retail, eCommerce, or membership-platform experience
• Prior Walmart, Sam''s Club, or Apex Systems consulting experience
