The Principal Engineer partners closely with the Architecture Team, Network Engineering, DevOps, Security, Product, and Business stakeholders to ensure the Genesys Cloud environment is resilient, compliant, cost-effective, and aligned with business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture
  • Serve as the primary technical authority for the Genesys Cloud CX platform.
  • Define and maintain reference architectures, design patterns, and best practices for contact center solutions.
  • Lead complex platform designs including routing strategies, IVR/Architect flows, workforce engagement, digital channels, and analytics.
  • Evaluate new Genesys features, releases, and integrations; provide recommendations and adoption roadmaps.
  • Provide long-term cost forecasting and platform capacity planning.
  • Oversee integration patterns between Genesys, telephony carriers, identity platforms, CRM systems, and various analytics tools.
Platform Engineering & Operations
  • Design, build, and maintain highly available, scalable, and secure Genesys Cloud CX environments.
  • Lead advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for platform and integration issues.
  • Establish standards for monitoring, logging, alerting, and performance optimization.
  • Promote API-driven configuration management and automation of platform provisioning.
  • Create naming conventions, tagging standards, and configuration governance.
Integrations & Custom Development
  • Architect and oversee integrations between Genesys Cloud CX and CRM, WFM, data platforms, identity providers, and third-party systems.
  • Provide technical guidance on API usage, event streaming, webhooks, and custom applications.
  • Review and approve complex solution designs and custom development efforts.
Security, Compliance & Governance
  • Ensure platform designs meet security, privacy, and regulatory requirements (e.g., PCI, GDPR, SOC2 where applicable).
  • Partner with Security and Risk teams to implement controls, audits, and access governance.
  • Define standards for data retention, encryption, identity, and role-based access.
  • Analyze and optimize licensing models (CX1, CX2, WEM, digital).
  • HIPAA considerations for voice recording and data storage.
Mentorship & Influence
  • Mentor and coach engineers across teams; raise the overall technical bar.
  • Lead design reviews, architectural discussions, and post-incident reviews.
  • Influence without authority by setting direction, documenting standards, and building consensus.
Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to leadership on platform capabilities, risks, and tradeoffs.
  • Support vendor management and act as an escalation point with Genesys and partners.
Required Qualifications
  • 8-12+ years of experience in contact center, cloud, or enterprise platform engineering roles.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Genesys Cloud CX (routing, Architect, Admin, Analytics, WEM, Digital, Voice).
  • Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures (SaaS, APIs, microservices, event-driven systems).
  • Proven experience designing and supporting large-scale, mission-critical contact center environments.
  • Expertise in REST APIs, JSON, OAuth, webhooks, and event streaming.
  • Experience with telephony concepts (SIP, VoIP, PSTN, call flows, QoS).
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in complex distributed systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Genesys Cloud CX certifications (Professional, Specialist, or Expert levels).
  • Experience integrating with CRM platforms (Salesforce, ServiceNow, Dynamics, etc.).
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools, CI/CD pipelines, and automation scripting.
  • Experience with data analytics, speech/text analytics, or AI-driven contact center features.
  • Prior experience in regulated industries or large enterprise environments.
Leadership Competencies
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to balance long-term architecture and short-term delivery.
  • Clear communicator who can explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong ownership mindset and bias toward action.
  • Collaborative leader who builds trust across teams and functions.
Working Environment
  • Primarily remote with collaboration across distributed teams.
  • On-call or escalation support may be required for critical incidents.
Success Measures
  • Platform stability, performance, and availability.
  • Adoption of standardized architectures and best practices.
  • Reduction in incidents through proactive design and automation.
  • Positive feedback from engineering teams and business stakeholders.
