We are looking for a Cable Technician to support structured cabling installation projects in Texas. This contract opportunity with permanent potential is ideal for someone who can take ownership of field installation work, maintain high quality standards, and contribute to safe, efficient job site execution. The role involves hands-on work across copper and fiber cabling, device installation, testing, documentation, and coordination with crews and site partners.
Responsibilities:
Install and complete structured cabling systems from initial rough-in through final device trim, including copper and fiber media.
Terminate, route, and organize Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, and single-mode and multimode fiber cabling to meet project specifications.
Build out telecommunications spaces by setting backboards, racks, patch panels, cable management components, cross-connects, and fiber enclosures.
Mount and connect low-voltage systems such as access control hardware, video surveillance equipment, and audio visual devices, then verify proper operation.
Place and secure pathway infrastructure including tray, J-hooks, D-rings, bridle rings, sleeves, and core penetrations to support clean cable runs.
Test and certify installed cabling with approved equipment, resolve any faults identified during validation, and prepare systems for final turnover.
Label cables and equipment, maintain accurate as-built records, and complete required project paperwork such as work orders, change documentation, checklists, and timesheets.
Guide daily activities for assigned technicians, coordinate work with customers, contractors, and other trades, and communicate progress or risks to project leadership.
Follow site-specific safety requirements, perform elevated work responsibly, apply grounding, bonding, and firestopping practices correctly, and report hazards or incidents promptl
Requirements
At least 5 years of hands-on experience installing low-voltage systems, including structured cabling projects.
Demonstrated skill with copper and fiber termination, testing, certification, and troubleshooting.
Experience with at least one specialized system area such as access control, video surveillance, or audio visual installation.
Ability to interpret construction drawings, riser diagrams, and floor plans and work independently from project documentation.
Prior experience leading or directing a small installation crew on active job sites.
High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school, apprenticeship training, or military technical experience is a plus.
Working knowledge of network cabling, cable installation methods, fiber-optic systems, and low-voltage cabling standards.
