Senior SCADA / Controls Engineer
Location: San Antonio or Austin, TX (Hybrid)
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior SCADA / Controls Engineer to lead the design, development, deployment, and support of enterprise-scale industrial automation systems. This role requires deep hands-on experience with modern SCADA platforms, Allen-Bradley PLCs, PlantPAx standards, and highly available, centrally hosted architectures deployed across multiple manufacturing facilities and vendors.
Key Responsibilities SCADA & HMI
- Develop, deploy, and support SCADA systems using:
- Rockwell FactoryTalk View
- AVEVA Wonderware (OMI & InTouch HMI)
- Experience with the current or most recent three (-3) major versions of these platforms
- Lead implementation of centrally hosted SCADA architectures with edge redundancy
- Design, configure, test, and maintain redundancy and failover solutions in distributed Windows Server environments
PLC & Controls Engineering
- 10+ years of PLC programming experience
- Expert-level proficiency with Allen-Bradley SLC and ControlLogix
- Strong understanding of multiple PLC programming languages and control methodologies
PlantPAx & Industry Standards
- Required: Hands-on development experience with PlantPAx 4.x or higher
- Proven ability to implement PlantPAx standards across:
- Multiple plants
- Multiple vendors and system integrators
- Strong working and leadership knowledge of:
- ISA-95 (system handoffs, roles, and responsibility boundaries)
- ISA-88 (batch control models and execution standards)
MES, Historian & Enterprise Integration
- Strong understanding of MES ecosystems and their interaction with:
- ERP systems
- Peer manufacturing systems
- Proven experience with historian platforms, ideally AVEVA PI (OSIsoft)
- Ability to manage historian data and distribute updates to downstream applications
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Coordinate effectively with:
- Software engineers
- Network engineers
- IT and OT stakeholders
- Participate in architecture reviews, deployment planning, and system sustainment activities
Leadership & Soft Skills
- Ability to mentor and guide junior and mid-level system developers
- Strong understanding of:
- Project duration and complexity estimation
- Planning for concurrent capital and sustainment initiatives
- Clear communication and strong documentation discipline
