Katalon Studio QA Automation Engineer || G.C / U.S.C

Summary
We are seeking a QA Automation Engineer to drive test quality across web and API platforms, with a strong focus on building and maintaining automation in Katalon Studio. You will design scalable test suites, execute both automated and manual tests, integrate testing into CI/CD pipelines, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain robust Katalon Studio test frameworks (WebUI and API), including data-driven and keyword-driven approaches.
- Develop automated test scripts in Groovy/Java; refactor for reusability, stability, and low flakiness.
- Build and execute API tests for REST and SOAP services, including request chaining, assertions, and contract validation.
- Plan and run manual tests (smoke, functional, exploratory) and convert high-value scenarios to automation.
- Create and maintain high-quality test cases, test data, and traceability to requirements/user stories.
- Integrate automated suites into CI/CD (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions); manage test execution in pipelines and report results.
- Track, triage, and verify defects in Jira (or similar); collaborate with developers and product owners on root cause and resolution.
- Maintain regression packs and smoke suites; ensure coverage for new features and critical paths.
- Validate data integrity via SQL queries and support database-level testing.
- Produce clear test reports/dashboards; communicate quality risks and readiness.
- Contribute to Agile ceremonies (backlog grooming, sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives).
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on Katalon Studio experience (mandatory), including building automation frameworks from scratch and maintaining at scale.
- Strong background in test automation for web and APIs, plus solid manual testing skills.
- Proficiency with Groovy or Java; understanding of Selenium/WebDriver concepts as used within Katalon.
- API testing expertise (REST/SOAP), including authentication, payload validation, and negative testing.
- Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions) and Git-based workflows.
- Defect management using Jira (or equivalent) and familiarity with Agile/Scrum practices.
- Practical SQL skills for verification and database testing.
- Clear communication, analytical thinking, and a quality-first mindset.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Katalon TestOps, parallel execution, and CI test orchestration.
- BDD/Gherkin (Cucumber-style) test design within Katalon.
- Exposure to service virtualization, test data management, and environment configuration.
- Basic performance testing (e.g., JMeter) and/or security testing awareness.
- Docker/containerized test execution; cloud CI runners (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud Platform).
- Mobile test automation in Katalon (Android/iOS).
Education and Work Arrangement
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Open to onsite, hybrid, or remote depending on location and team needs.
