Summary

Now Brewing - Lead UX Designer! #tobeapartner

From the beginning, Starbucks set out to be a different kind of company. One that not only celebrated coffee and the rich tradition, but that also brought a feeling of connection. We are known for developing extraordinary leaders who share this passion and are guided by their service to others.

Our Coffeehouse Excellence User Experience team designs the systems and experiences that enable coffeehouse operations across North America. We are a collaborative, human-centered group solving complex, business-critical problems through deep empathy and understanding of human behaviors.

In this lead role, you'll define and drive experience strategy for complex, multi-role systems aligning user needs, business goals, and cross-product execution to deliver meaningful outcomes. You'll partner closely with research, engineering, product, and coffeehouse operations to ensure people, processes, and technology work together to enable partners to deliver exceptional customer experiences every day.

As a lead UX designer, you will...

  • Lead design for complex, multi-user systems; create intentional end-to-end experiences across interconnected digital and physical workflows that drive effective coffeehouse operations.
  • Partner cross-functionally to identify unmet needs and define strategic opportunities where experience design can measurably improve business outcomes.
  • Create and refine frameworks grounded in research and analysis that help teams make stronger, user-centered decisions more consistently.
  • Apply design and storytelling skills to create compelling artifacts that align & inspire diverse groups of stakeholders (e.g., journey maps, service blueprints, video prototypes).
  • Guide design from concept through execution with hands-on direction, feedback, and high-quality contributions that reflect craft & care.
  • Plan and coordinate design across products to ensure we deliver cohesive, connected experiences that align with our design standards.
  • Mentor designers, strengthening both execution and strategic thinking.
  • Partner with other UX leaders to evolve design processes, standards, and ways of working.

We'd love to hear from people with:

  • 5+ years of UX design experience for digital products
  • 3+ years designing products using design systems, including multi-touchpoint experiences
  • 1+ years overseeing development or maintenance of a design system, or leading design for platforms leveraging a design system
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Self-starter able to operate in agile environments with rapid, cross-functional design iteration
  • Experience mentoring designers and providing actionable, high-quality feedback
  • Proven ability to lead cross-team initiatives and collaborate across engineering, design, and product management
  • Experience designing for iOS
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and their capabilities and constraints
  • Strong communication skills with ability to influence and align stakeholders across teams
  • Experience with design languages, human interface guidelines, and building scalable frameworks, components, and patterns
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity and solving complex problems in iterative environments
  • Strong foundation in interaction design, visual design, and information architecture

For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
