Job Title: Data Consultant

Summary:The Data Consultant for the Division of Hospital Medicine gathers, analyzes, and reports data from UPHS information systems to support clinical operations across multiple sites, including The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, and Good Shepherd Penn Partners. This role drives data analysis initiatives to inform operational, quality, and research efforts, collaborating with leadership and stakeholders to provide timely, accurate and actionable insights.
Primary responsibilities include developing and leading data analysis programs for hospital-based physicians and APPs, crafting creative analytic solutions, and clearly communicating findings. The role also involves close collaboration with key analytics teams across clinical, quality and information systems and may require participation in UPHS-wide data committees and initiatives.
This hybrid position includes on-site requirements at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and demands strong communication, organizational and analytical skills.
Responsibilities: Subject Matter Expertise:
- Maintains or obtains Epic Caboodle and Clarity certifications to help serve the greater Penn DnA community and the division.
- Must be efficient in SQL query authoring.
Data Governance:
- Promotes adoption of standard data definitions and usage across analyst teams.
- Supports data definition and data dictionary development, helping guide the division move towards a common definition in any applicable situation.
Problem Framing and Decision Quality:
- Helps business users reframe needs into robust data deliverables keeping in mind data governance work.
- Strives for high decision quality by thinking ahead and informing stakeholders for success.
Other Tasks:
- Collaborates effectively with Information Services and other data teams in the organizations as required.
- Works toward problem resolution breaking down barriers between teams.
- Serves as an expert in analytics and analysis
- Participates in UPHS data related committees
- Participates in UPHS-wide Hospital Medicine initiatives
- Collaborates with applicable entity-based quality improvement teams
- Works in conjunction with physician and APP leadership
- Creates data presentations to help guide clinical and administrative decision making
- Works with minimal supervision to collect, monitor and analyze data
Education or Equivalent Experience:- Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)
- Education Specialization:
Computer Science, Business Administration, Health Information Management (Preferred) - 4+ years Experience in the health care industry in some combination of the following: physician practice operations, clinical analytics, health plan, multi-facility health system, or accountable care organization (ACO) settings
And Prior work experience with EMR data (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, etc.)
