About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Audio Engineer to join the Consumer Audio Engineering ALab team in Northridge, California. ALab is a new technology development group focused on researching, prototyping, and enabling next-generation audio technologies for future consumer products.

This role emphasizes audio DSP, system-level audio development, and applied acoustics, with hands-on involvement in early-stage technology exploration and innovation. The ideal candidate is technically curious, eager to learn, and motivated to grow across multiple audio disciplines while contributing to advanced consumer audio solutions.

What You Will Do
  • Develop, prototype, and optimize audio DSP algorithms for next-generation consumer audio products.
  • Explore and evaluate new audio technologies, supporting proof-of-concept development and early platform enablement.
  • Contribute to system-level audio design, including algorithm integration, tuning strategies, and performance evaluation.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including DSP, hardware, software, acoustics, and product engineering.
  • Apply audio technologies to consumer electronics products such as headphones, speakers, soundbars, and smart audio devices.
  • Perform objective acoustic and electrical measurements as well as subjective listening evaluations.
  • Document algorithms, experimental results, system designs, and technical recommendations.
  • Track emerging trends in audio DSP, acoustics, and AI-enabled audio processing, and assess applicability to future products.
  • Work with global teams and external partners to support technology transition toward productization.

What You Need (Required Qualifications)
  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Master's degree (MS) is a plus and valued for advanced research or algorithm development.
  • Hands-on development experience with consumer electronics audio products, such as headphones, speakers, soundbars, or similar devices (required).
  • Strong fundamentals in audio signal processing, audio systems, or acoustics.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and experience with DSP or embedded audio software development.
  • Experience using audio measurement, analysis, or tuning tools (e.g., MATLAB, Audio Precision, SoundCheck, or equivalent).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
  • Self-motivated with a demonstrated willingness to learn, grow, and expand technical depth.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills in English.

Preferred / Nice to Have
  • Technology concentration or deeper experience in DSP or Acoustics (preferred but not limiting).
  • Experience with headphone-related audio technologies (ANC, call processing, EQ, spatial audio, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Bluetooth audio platforms or embedded DSP architectures.
  • AI / machine learning knowledge or hands-on experience, particularly as applied to audio or signal processing (a plus).
  • Experience working with global engineering teams, suppliers, or external development partners.

What Makes You Eligible
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% annually.
  • Willingness to work from the Northridge, California office as part of a collaborative engineering team.
  • Any offer of employment is conditioned upon the successful completion of a background investigation and drug screen.

What We Offer
  • Opportunity to work in a new technology development lab shaping the future of consumer audio.
  • Exposure to advanced DSP, audio systems, and AI-driven audio technologies.
  • A collaborative, innovation-focused engineering culture.
  • Professional development opportunities and competitive compensation.
  • Access to employee discounts on world-class Harman and Samsung products (JBL, HARMAN Kardon, AKG, etc.)
  • Extensive training opportunities through our own HARMAN University
