Position Overview

Meta's Codec Avatars Lab is seeking a highly skilled Senior Graphics Engineer to help drive the development of a modern, high-performance rendering engine that powers next-generation research experiences. This role focuses on advancing rendering capabilities, improving performance, implementing cutting-edge graphics techniques, and integrating research innovations into production-quality demonstrations.
The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in C++, Vulkan, real-time rendering, GPU optimization, and advanced graphics technologies. You will collaborate closely with researchers and engineers to bring state-of-the-art graphics innovations from concept to reality.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, enhance, and optimize features within a low-level Vulkan rendering engine.
  • Profile and improve GPU and CPU performance across the rendering pipeline.
  • Support multi-GPU real-time rendering and multithreaded XR rendering workflows.
  • Implement advanced rendering techniques including:
    • Deferred Shading
    • Ray Tracing
    • HDR Rendering
  • Improve display quality through high refresh-rate rendering and color-accurate HDR output.
  • Integrate rendering systems with research initiatives and adjacent technologies across the organization.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve rendering engine and graphics-related issues.
  • Contribute to cross-platform support across Linux, Windows, and macOS environments.
  • Improve tooling, build reliability, and development workflows.
  • Create technical documentation and assist in preparing components for potential external release.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong programming expertise in C++.
  • Significant hands-on experience with Vulkan graphics development.
  • Experience building desktop graphics applications or rendering systems.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Real-time rendering pipelines
    • Graphics architecture
    • Shading models
    • GPU programming concepts
  • Experience profiling and optimizing both GPU and CPU performance.
  • Experience using version control systems such as Git or Mercurial.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Game engine development experience.
  • Experience with neural rendering, radiance fields, or Gaussian splatting.
  • Hands-on experience with ray tracing, HDR, deferred rendering, or related techniques.
  • Experience leveraging modern AI tools and workflows.
  • Cross-platform development expertise across Linux, Windows, and macOS.
  • Experience with OpenXR and VR/XR rendering environments.
  • Knowledge of OpenGL, Direct3D 12, Metal, or mobile graphics development.
  • Experience integrating graphics SDKs such as DLSS or other upscaling technologies.
  • Experience with real-time networking or netcode development.
  • Exposure to PyTorch, CUDA, TensorRT, or Python interoperability tools such as pybind11.
  • Experience contributing to graphics research published at conferences such as SIGGRAPH or CVPR.
  • Open-source development experience.
  • Familiarity with build systems including CMake, Bazel, or Buck.
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a seasoned graphics engineer with deep Vulkan expertise, strong GPU optimization skills, and a passion for advancing real-time rendering technology. Candidates with experience in graphics engines, XR/VR systems, rendering research, or high-performance visualization applications will be especially successful in this role.
