Senior Java Software Engineer

Location: Downtown Toronto, ON

About the Role

Our client is building the next generation of live social commerce, a real-time shopping platform that enables direct interaction between buyers and sellers through live streaming experiences. Focused on unique items, collectibles, and fashion, the platform blends entertainment with seamless commerce at scale.
As an Backend Software Engineer, you will design and build scalable, high-performance backend systems that support real-time interactions, transactions, and 24/7 availability. You'll take ownership of complex systems, influence architecture decisions, and mentor others while collaborating across cross-functional teams.

What You'll Do

• Translate business and technical requirements into scalable backend designs
• Write clean, efficient, extensible, and maintainable code
• Own a large functional area with deep technical expertise
• Influence technical decisions across domain and partner teams
• Improve engineering productivity through best practices and tooling
• Design backend systems with flexibility to support evolving requirements
• Collaborate with product, frontend, and infrastructure teams to deliver high-quality solutions
• Apply evidence-centered design to ensure testability, quality, and continuous delivery
• Manage features end-to-end, breaking work into tasks and resolving execution challenges
• Provide code reviews, architectural guidance, mentoring, and coaching
• Contribute to and review Architecture Decision Records (ADRs)
• Identify cross-system gaps, propose solutions, and help shape the engineering roadmap
• Participate in release management, production support, and on-call rotations for an always-on platform

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $100.00/hr.
