OverviewWe are seeking a full-time
Software Engineering Manager at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area.
In this role, you will be responsible for managing a team that is responsible for delivering, enhancing, and supporting the Single Sign-On application software applications.
We are looking for an individual who leads, inspires, and develops Software Engineers by setting clear expectations, goals, providing consistent feedback, training, and fostering a collaborative, accountable and high-performing team. Ideal candidate must be proficient in java programming language with expertise in RESTful APIs and microservices architecture and is able to communicate effectively at all levels within the organization and has hands on experience in monitoring and alerting tools.
Key responsibilities include hiring, performance management, career development and ensuring high-quality, on-time delivery of Software projects. This individual will act as a bridge between technical teams and stakeholders, balancing technical expertise with people management skills.
Essential Functions- Accountable for the health, maturity, predictability and effectiveness of each development team, the stability/quality of the software products/technologies, and the successful delivery of the programs/projects executed by each delivery team
- Fosters innovation, team work, and continuous improvements of both the software team and products to align with organizational structure and core values
- Ensures projects are appropriately staffed to align with priorities and delivery targets
- Collaborates with functional and technical leads to ensure optimum team effectivity
- Monitors organization health through each squad's delivery and quality metrics
- Participates in evolving product development roadmaps and the stability and quality of applications and technologies
- Ensures that security risks are properly addressed, that release processes comply with standards, and that organizational policies are adhered to
- Engages and motivates engineering staff by communicating frequently on the topics of vision, goals, upcoming changes, and current status
- Provides visibility to reporting director on major accomplishments, changes, and risks as well as the health and evolution of both the products and the teams
- Participates in the incident management process serving as incident owner and authoring incident reports as necessary
- Accountable for effectively managing change including approving changes, communicating upcoming major releases to IT Management and evaluating risks
- Evaluates, selects, and implements new technologies and works with technology vendors to evaluate solutions, negotiate rates, and maintain existing relationships
- Builds/maintains high performing team(s) by recruiting, developing, and retaining outstanding talent
- Promotes team member engagement/effectiveness by providing constructive feedback and promoting personal development, including writing and conducting annual performance appraisals
- Develops/manages team and individual performance and capacity metrics to identify successful operations or areas where improvement is needed, while also working to ensure that all organizational objectives are met
- Demonstrates ongoing personal development, professional growth, and continuous education
- Accepts, develops and executes projects and other miscellaneous IT & Security duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience as an Information Technology professional OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
- Experience working in an Agile environments (XP, Scrum, Kanban)
- Familiarity with SDLC, Quality Standards, and Best Practices
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing global applications
- Proven track record of delivery - including the coordination and management of projects in a dynamic, fast paced environment
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment
Desired Qualifications- Experience managing the implementing applications including CRM, Call Center, e-Commerce and/or ERP
- Experience with cloud-based applications including the Twelve-Factor App methodology
- Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX), Payment Card Industry (PCI), NIST, ISO27001, GDPR, or other regulations
- Experience supervising and managing software development teams
- Experience with automated testing tools and testing procedures
