Summary

RESPONSIBILITIES:
A Kforce telecommunications client in San Diego, CA is currently looking for a Linux Platform Test Engineer for 6 months that is 3 days/week onsite. Must work PST hours.

Summary:
We are seeking a Linux Platform Test Engineer to support the development, testing, and delivery of Linux-based embedded software platforms used in connected technology environments. This role will be responsible for validating software quality, enhancing automated test frameworks, supporting CI/CD processes, and troubleshooting complex system issues across both virtualized and hardware environments.

Responsibilities:
* Design, develop, and execute software test strategies for Linux-based platforms
* Develop and maintain automated testing solutions using Python and scripting tools
* Perform validation testing on both virtual and physical hardware environments
* Support CI/CD pipelines and improve software release quality through automation
* Investigate production issues, analyze logs, and drive root cause analysis
* Collaborate with software engineers in an Agile development environment
* Participate in code reviews and promote software quality best practices
* Work with Docker, containerized applications, and modern DevOps tools
* Contribute to software deployment, integration, and system validation efforts
* Up to 10% travel may be required

REQUIREMENTS:
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
* 5+ years of experience with Linux-based software development and/or testing
* Strong Python development experience (required)
* Experience with C/C++ in embedded or Linux environments
* Hands-on experience with Linux operating systems and troubleshooting
* Experience creating and executing test plans using requirement-based testing methodologies
* Familiarity with CI/CD tools and DevOps practices
* Experience with Git, GitHub, Jenkins and/or GitHub Actions
* Experience with Docker and containerized environments
* Strong debugging skills, including log analysis and root cause investigation
* Experience working in Agile software development environments
* Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications:
* Linux system administration experience, including systemd, boot process debugging, and log analysis
* Experience with embedded Linux distributions such as Yocto, Buildroot, OpenWRT, or AlmaLinux
* Knowledge of Kubernetes, k3s, or Helm
* Experience with storage technologies such as ZFS
* Familiarity with infrastructure tools such as HashiCorp Vault and Artifactory
* Experience with Rust or Go
* Exposure to AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
