We''re seeking a hands-on Data Services Architect/Lead to drive a large-scale data modernization initiative for a wealth management platform. You''ll lead the transition from Sybase to Azure SQL—spanning architecture, execution, and team enablement—while enabling phased client migration and building a modern data services foundation.
This role bridges strategy and delivery. You won''t just design; you''ll roll up your sleeves and guide teams through implementation.

What You''ll Do
Migration Strategy & Execution
· Define and validate an incremental, client-by-client migration approach
· Architect coexistence between legacy Sybase and Azure SQL environments
· Identify hybrid operation risks and develop mitigation strategies
Stored Procedure Modernization
· Lead analysis and transformation of ~3,500 stored procedures
· Drive phased approach: lift-and-shift initially, then business logic extraction into Spring Boot microservices/APIs
· Establish clear standards for what logic stays in the database vs. moves to services
Data Services Layer Design
· Design and implement a data service abstraction layer that decouples applications from the database
· Replace direct stored procedure calls with scalable, maintainable service patterns
· Ensure the layer meets performance and scalability requirements
Data Architecture & Multi-Tenancy
· Lead transition from single-tenant to tenant-aware architecture
· Define data isolation models across clients
· Create a roadmap for long-term data partitioning strategy
ETL & Data Pipeline Modernization
· Redesign ETL workflows using Azure Data Factory (ADF) and Databricks
· Define patterns for data ingestion, transformation, and movement
· Re-architect upstream and downstream system integrations
Batch Processing Transformation
· Consolidate and redesign batch processes (merging multiple outputs into single consolidated outputs)
· Ensure continued compatibility with mainframe downstream systems
Performance & Optimization
· Identify and address query and workload performance risks
· Optimize SQL queries, indexing strategies, and data access patterns
Hands-On Technical Leadership
· Guide and mentor implementation teams (India/Poland)
· Provide code-level guidance, debugging, and troubleshooting support
· Drive delivery outcomes—not just design reviews

What We''re Looking For
· Proven experience leading data platform migrations at scale
· Deep expertise in SQL Server/Azure SQL and stored procedure modernization
· Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, Databricks, and modern ETL patterns
· Strong understanding of microservices architecture and API design (Spring Boot preferred)
· Experience with multi-tenant data architecture and partitioning strategies
· Ability to lead distributed teams while staying technically engaged
· Track record of balancing architectural vision with pragmatic delivery
