What you'll do:

We're seeking a Principal Software Engineer with proven leadership in architecting and delivering advanced solution on the Workday platform, emphasizing exceptional development skills with a focus on Workday Extend applications and Workday Orchestrator integrations. The ideal candidate will drive the technical vision for scalable, secure, and resilient HR and payroll technology capabilities that serve enterprise-wide needs. In this role, you'll partner with Product, HRIS, Security, and Integration teams to craft modern architectures, mentor senior engineers, and set engineering standards for the Workday ecosystem. Responsibilities include:

Architecture & Delivery
  • Lead end-to-end architecture for Workday solutions using Workday Extend and Workday Orchestrator for complex workflows.
  • Own integration strategy across Workday Web Services (WWS), REST/SOAP APIs, EIB, RaaS, PECI/PICC, and Studio where appropriate.
  • Advanced expertise in building Workday custom reports, custom objects, calculated fields, and boomerangs to support complex enterprise HR and integration requirements.
  • Implement Workday-delivered AI-powered HR solutions.
  • Drive scalable designs for event-driven and API-led integrations; define SLAs/SLOs and non-functional requirements (NFRs).

Engineering Excellence
  • Establish coding standards, CI/CD pipelines, unit testing, end-to-end testing, and secure SDLC for Workday Extend apps and orchestrations.
  • Ensure observability (logs/metrics/traces), automated monitoring/alerting, and robust error handling/retries for integrations.

Security & Compliance
  • Design with Workday security domains, business process security policies, and segregation of duties (SoD).
  • Implement data protection, encryption, secrets management, auditability, SOX/PII/PCI controls as applicable.
  • Expert in Workday file-based integrations, including configuration and operation of Workday Data Router and SFTP for reliable, secure data exchange with external systems.

Product Partnership
  • Translate business capabilities into technical roadmaps; shape backlog with measurable outcomes.
  • Lead technical discovery, proof-of-concepts, and production rollouts with change management.

Mentorship & Influence
  • Coach senior/staff engineers; conduct design reviews; evolve best practices and reusable patterns.
  • Influence vendor/product roadmap and represent engineering in cross-functional forums.

What you'll need:
  • 7+ years in software engineering with 5+ years building on Workday (HR/HCM/Payroll) platforms.
  • Expert with Workday Web Services, REST/SOAP, EIB, RaaS, Workday Studio; strong JSON/XML/XSLT skills.
  • Solid cloud experience (Azure and/or AWS), containerization fundamentals, and event-driven patterns (e.g., webhooks, pub/sub).
  • Knowledgeable in Workday Extend building custom apps, components, and UI logic.
  • Knowledgeable in Workday Orchestrator flows for complex, multi-step integrations.
  • Proven leadership delivering large-scale, enterprise-grade, secure solutions with CI/CD and automated testing.
  • Bachelor's in CS/Engineering or equivalent experience.

What you'll bring:
  • Preferred qualifications:
  • Experience with Workday Extend, Workday Orchestrator, Prism Analytics, BIRT, Report Designer, BPs, condition rules, and custom objects.
  • Strong grasp of HR/Payroll processes (HCM Core, Absence, Benefits, Time, Talent, Compensation, US Payroll).
  • Data privacy & compliance (SOX, GDPR, CCPA), secrets management, certificate lifecycle management.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management; ability to influence at executive and engineering levels
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science

Our Principal Software Engineering, earns between $174,100-$261,100 USD Annual, Not to mention all the other amazing rewards that working at AT&T offers. Individual starting salary within this range may depend on geography, experience, expertise, and education/training.
