Job Role: Senior Data Architect – Enterprise Reporting & Modernization (Oil & Gas Experience Preferred)
Location: Remote (Ideal candidates local to the State of Texas)
This role supports enterprise reporting and data modernization initiatives by designing and maintaining scalable data architecture for analytics, dashboards, and business intelligence solutions. The Senior Data Architect will be responsible for developing enterprise reporting data models using star and snowflake schemas, supporting KPI-driven reporting, and guiding modernization efforts that may include legacy and mainframe system transitions.
The position requires strong expertise in data modeling, enterprise BI platforms, governance frameworks, and collaboration with cross-functional technical and business teams to deliver high-quality, scalable reporting solutions.
Responsibilities (Including but not limited to)
• Design, develop, and maintain enterprise reporting data models, including fact and dimension tables, semantic layers, and reporting datasets.
• Translate business requirements into scalable data structures that support KPIs, dashboards, operational reporting, and advanced analytics.
• Define and document data architecture standards, governance guidelines, naming conventions, and metadata practices.
• Partner with enterprise architects and data engineering teams to design efficient ETL/ELT pipelines and integration workflows.
• Review and evaluate business systems and user needs to design solutions aligned with strategic objectives and operational efficiency goals.
• Perform solution analysis including cost-benefit analysis, ROI assessments, and build vs. buy evaluations.
• Collaborate with reporting teams to ensure consistent metric definitions, calculations, and enterprise-wide data standards.
• Support reusable BI data assets for tools such as Power BI, Tableau, SSRS, or similar platforms.
• Work closely with business stakeholders and technical teams, including legacy and mainframe support teams, to define reporting requirements and analytical objectives.
• Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity across reporting environments.
• Establish and enforce data governance and metadata management practices.
• Support compliance with security, privacy, and regulatory requirements related to data management.
• Troubleshoot complex data issues and provide architectural leadership for resolution.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to report developers and analysts on data modeling best practices.
Required Qualifications
• 8+ years of experience in enterprise data modeling, including star schema, snowflake schema, semantic modeling, and scalable reporting structures.
• 8+ years of experience translating business requirements into technical data architectures.
• 6+ years of hands-on experience with enterprise BI/reporting platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, SSRS, or similar tools.
• 6+ years of experience designing KPIs, business metrics, and analytical methodologies.
• 8+ years of experience interpreting data models, data dictionaries, and technical documentation.
• 4+ years of experience applying data governance frameworks and metadata management principles.
• 8+ years of proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and SharePoint.
• 6+ years of experience working in fast-paced environments, managing deadlines, analyzing complex information, and exercising sound judgment in decision-making.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate, negotiate, resolve conflicts, and build effective working relationships across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience within the Oil and Gas industry.
• 5+ years of experience supporting legacy-to-modern system migrations and complex modernization initiatives.
• 3+ years of familiarity with mainframe environments (IMS, COBOL files, JCL, batch processing).
• 2+ years of knowledge related to local, state, or federal privacy regulations and data governance requirements involving PII.
