Job Description – Oracle PL/SQL Developer

Location: Lincoln, Rhode Island/Remote

 

Requirements

Advanced SQL skills.

·       A good understanding of hints, such as APPEND and PARALLEL.

·       Knowledge of how to troubleshoot subqueries.

·       Experience analyzing database performance issues and identifying blocking sessions, long-running queries, and parallel execution bottlenecks

·       Strong knowledge of Oracle data dictionary and dynamic performance views (e.g., GV$SESSION, GV$SQL, GV$PX_SESSION), including when and why they should be used for performance monitoring and troubleshooting.

·       Understanding of how cursor loops and batch loading record caps execute. We need the candidate to explain their thought process by providing a use case they have encountered in the past.

·       Ability to extract data from JSON and load it into a staging table using PL/SQL.

·       Strategies for handling situations where hints are not enforced by ADW or ATP.

·       Comparison of temporary tables versus CTEs (Common Table Expressions) to determine which is better.

·       Proficiency in navigating explain plans.

·       If you are an outsider given access to a database containing PL/SQL packages and tasked with debugging the PL/SQL, identify the table you would use to investigate the task.

·       Exposure to Python, specifically for database connectivity, extraction, and loading.

·       Good exposure to ADW Performance Hub.

·       Good to have, Insurance domain expertise particularly in MA CAR, TICO and ISO.

 

Responsibilities

·       Data Analysis and Troubleshooting: Analyze and troubleshoot existing Oracle data sets related to MA CAR, TICO, and ISO standards.

·       ETL Development and Optimization: Develop, analyze, and refactor PL/SQL scripts to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data.

·       Reporting and Dashboard Creation: Create and manage dashboards and reports to provide actionable insights to stakeholders.

·       Mapping and Code Analysis: Create a mapping document from pseudo code and analyze it in relation to current PL/SQL code in Oracle ATP and ADW databases.

·       OCI Module Knowledge: Possess a good understanding of OCI module – performance hub, ASH analytics.

·       Collaboration with Finance Team: Collaborate with the Finance team to understand data requirements and deliver solutions.

·       Data Accuracy and Integrity: Ensure data accuracy and integrity in Policy Center and Claim Center data.

·       Data Pattern Recognition: Identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in data to support business strategies.

·       Training and Technical Support: Provide technical support and training to team members on data-related tools and processes.

·       JIRA Story Updates and Status Management: Regularly update and maintain JIRA stories, ensuring that the status is always accurate and up to date. Track the progress of tasks and highlight any blockers or potential delays.

·       Proactive Communication with Stakeholders: Collaborate with internal leads and managers to provide regular project status updates. Actively communicate any challenges or risks to ensure transparency and alignment with project timelines and goals.

·       Ownership of Tasks and Accountability: Take full ownership of assigned tasks or stories, ensuring they are completed on time and meet high-quality standards. Be accountable for the successful execution and completion of work, minimizing the need for oversight.

·       Reporting and Risk Management: Provide detailed, timely reporting on the progress of tasks, including updates on any challenges or roadblocks. Ensure that relevant parties are informed of the status and potential risks, driving transparency throughout the process.
