Staff Applications Engineer

Location: Vernon, CA

Role Summary:

Flowserve is seeking a technically strong and customer-focused Staff Applications Engineer to support industrial and engineered-to-order flow control solutions. This role combines engineering expertise, commercial awareness, and customer engagement to develop competitive technical solutions for complex applications across a variety of industries.

The ideal candidate will partner closely with sales, manufacturing, engineering, and operations teams to evaluate customer requirements, recommend optimized solutions, prepare quotations, and support the order execution process from inquiry through handoff. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving technical challenges while working in a fast-paced, customer-driven environment.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Review customer specifications, RFQs, datasheets, and technical requirements to develop accurate application solutions and product recommendations
  • Prepare technical and commercial quotations for pumps, valves, seals, or engineered flow control systems
  • Perform application review, sizing, selection, and costing activities in collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and sourcing teams
  • Serve as a technical liaison between customers, sales teams, and internal stakeholders throughout the proposal and order lifecycle
  • Support inside and outside sales teams with product expertise, pricing strategy, and lead-time coordination
  • Analyze customer operating conditions and recommend solutions that improve reliability, efficiency, and performance
  • Review purchase orders and customer documentation to ensure compliance with quoted scope and technical requirements
  • Manage order handoff and complete order documentation for execution teams
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on quote accuracy, response time, and customer satisfaction
  • Support cross-functional problem solving and provide technical guidance as needed
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in Applications Engineering, Inside Sales Engineering, Technical Sales, or a related industrial environment
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings, and customer requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to balance technical and commercial considerations in proposal development
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work directly with customers and cross-functional teams
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment

Preferred:
  • Experience in fluid handling, flow control, rotating equipment, or process industries such as oil & gas, chemical, power, water, or general industrial markets
  • Experience supporting industrial equipment such as pumps, valves, seals, rotating equipment, or engineered systems
  • Familiarity with API, ANSI, ASME, or ISO standards
  • Exposure to engineered-to-order or configure-to-order products
  • Knowledge of costing, margins, and commercial proposal strategy
  • Experience using SAP, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office applications

  • 94,967.41 - 142,517.90 USD
