Who we're looking forToyota's Privacy & Governance Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated
Privacy & Governance Consultant. Reporting to the Privacy & Governance Senior Manager, this role leads consultant-level strategy and execution to advance privacy governance across TMNA. The position drives enterprise-wide advocacy and training, builds and sustains a global privacy network, and develops mechanisms to proactively monitor and synthesize external changes in automotive privacy expectations, consumer sentiment, and evolving legal/regulatory requirements. This role will leverage industry forums and engagements to bring insights back into internal guidance, priorities, and operating mechanisms.

What you'll be doing - Develop and drive TMNA privacy governance strategy, translating external requirements and internal business priorities into an actionable roadmap, guidance, and measurable outcomes.
- Design and deliver privacy advocacy and enablement (training curricula, workshops, playbooks, communications) to improve awareness, consistency, and adoption of privacy requirements across TMNA functions.
- Build and maintain a global privacy network across Toyota affiliates and key partners to share best practices, align interpretations, and coordinate responses to emerging privacy topics for TMNA.
- Establish repeatable mechanisms to proactively trend, analyze, and communicate external changes (automotive industry developments, consumer expectations, regulator enforcement, case law, and new/updated privacy laws) and recommend internal actions.
- Partner with legal, compliance, risk, HR, marketing/communications, customer experience, and business leaders to align on privacy positions, messaging, and decision frameworks; facilitate executive-ready briefings and recommendations.
- Define, track, and report privacy governance metrics (training completion, policy adoption, issue themes, audit findings, emerging risks) and drive continuous improvement of processes and controls.
- Lead and/or support privacy risk assessments and governance reviews by driving stakeholder alignment on scope, issues, mitigations, and documentation-focusing on policy, process, and operational readiness.
- Serve as a trusted advisor for privacy governance questions, helping teams interpret requirements, apply standards consistently, and escalate or coordinate resolution of complex issues across the enterprise.
What you bring - Bachelor's (or higher) in Law, Business, Information Technology, Engineering, or a closely related field
- 5+ years of experience in privacy, data protection, governance, risk, or regulatory compliance, preferably supporting automotive and/or consumer-facing businesses
- 5+ years cross-functional project management experience
- Working knowledge of major privacy laws and regulatory concepts (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA and other U.S. state privacy laws) and the ability to translate requirements into clear, practical business guidance
- Demonstrated ability to influence without authority and drive alignment across diverse stakeholders (legal, compliance, business teams, and operations), including executive-ready communication
- Experience developing and delivering training, communications, or change-management materials (curricula, job aids, playbooks) to drive adoption of governance requirements at scale
- Ability to monitor, synthesize, and brief on external privacy trends impacting the automotive industry (e.g. regulatory activity, enforcement, emerging standards, consumer expectations), including engagement with relevant external stakeholders, and convert insights into recommended actions
- Certification in privacy (e.g., CIPP, CIPM) or the commitment to obtain within 6 months
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% of the time
Added bonus if you have - Master's degree in Law, Public Policy, Business, or a closely related field
- Experience building communities of practice or global networks (e.g., steering committees, working groups) and facilitating cross-region alignment
- Experience supporting privacy programs involving consumer data, marketing/CRM data, or vehicle/connected services data, including notice/consent and customer rights operations
- Experience supporting external privacy advocacy (e.g., participation in trade associations, standards bodies, regulator or consumer-group engagement, or publication/presentation of privacy guidance)
- Advanced privacy certification (e.g., CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM) and/or experience partnering closely with counsel on regulatory analysis and enforcement response
