Job Summary

Works collaboratively with program directors and content experts to support the design, development, and implementation of online courses and programs within the College of Social Work. Promotes the use of technology-based resources in learning and teaching and provides consultation, instruction, and assistance to faculty and staff related to technology supported instruction. The ability to collaborate and consult with subject-matter experts on the effective use of learning strategies, web-based resources, multimedia technologies, and instructional applications and systems to improve teaching and learning is essential to this position.

The successful candidate filling this position is not required to be on campus and can engage in telework remotely unless otherwise notified. The individual hired into this role will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at the telecommute location and agree to the terms of the University of Utah campus and Health Academics.

Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with the Online Program Director and faculty in the initiation development, and implementation of online courses and programs.
  • Construct high quality online courses and/or other instructional methods in a web-based learning management system/Canvas. This includes the ability to apply research-based learning theories including needs and task analysis, pedagogical theory, assessment strategies, and innovation using best practices to support the development of online courses.
  • Support construction of course blueprints that incorporate quality assurance measures and utilize best practice design principles. This includes but is not limited to backward design and alignment processes that ensure learning objectives, assessments, and activities are logically connected and demonstrate social work competencies.
  • Consults and advises faculty members on advantages, disadvantages, and feasibility of various methods of instruction specific to their course content.
  • Educate about and ensure copyright permission as needed.
  • Collaborate with Online Program Director and content experts on updates and revisions of courses/products.
  • Provide expertise and support to members of the college community in online instructional design, technology-based course development, design, and delivery techniques, and use of media and technology.
  • Working collaboratively with college leadership, support and/or lead initiatives for professional develop of faculty in support of online education and technology supported teaching.
  • Support the development and implementation of evaluation techniques to measure the effectiveness of course content, materials, and overall learning experience as well as quality assurance/improvement strategies to assess and evaluate online education.
  • Working collaboratively with college leadership, to support onboarding processes for new and continuing faculty.
  • Participate in University-wide committees and opportunities as relevant to job position.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development to stay apprised of current research and best practice technologies, innovations, and production practices.
  • Participate in and work collaboratively to complete assigned duties in College of Social Work committees.
  • Create and maintain cooperative, collaborative, and effective working relationships with administrators, faculty members, and staff in the development and delivery of online programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and at least 3 - 4 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Preferences
  • Master's degree in related field is preferred
  • Experience with Canvas and Kaltura
  • Experience in writing/developing tutorial and support documentation
  • Online teaching experience at the graduate level
