Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Associate Director, Capital Infrastructure Projects to support a diverse portfolio of investor-owned and public utility clients across Arizona and the Southwest.
Working closely with the Arizona Account Director, you will lead teams responsible for delivering major capital infrastructure, power generation, transmission, distribution, grid modernization, and other strategic utility projects.
This position is ideal for a driven project delivery leader with strong business acumen, deep knowledge of power utility operations, and a proven record of managing complex capital programs. You will join a team focused on delivering innovative, practical solutions to some of the utility industry’s most pressing infrastructure and operational challenges.
The successful candidate must have at least seven years of post-graduation project management experience specifically within the power utility sector. General project management experience in unrelated industries and experience limited to IT project management will not satisfy this requirement.

What You Will Do

As a key member of the Commercial Energy Providers team, you will manage teams delivering consulting and project services in areas such as:
• Capital project and program delivery
• Strategic advisory services
• Engineering studies
• Financial and contract management
• Project controls and performance reporting
• Regulatory compliance and monitoring
• Grants management
• Technology transformation
• Data analytics
• Risk management
• Grid modernization and transformation
• Infrastructure expansion
• Sustainability and electrification
You will work directly with utility clients and project stakeholders to assess performance, manage risks and issues, communicate project status, and proactively manage expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and mentor project delivery teams across multiple projects and workstreams
• Manage, monitor, and evaluate project activities, milestones, risks, and overall performance
• Contribute to project planning, budgeting, scheduling, governance, and delivery strategy
• Prepare, review, and maintain project documentation, status reports, forecasts, and executive communications
• Oversee project contracts, budgets, financial performance, and change control processes
• Establish and report on key performance indicators and project delivery metrics
• Analyze project and program data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for performance improvement
• Identify project challenges and delivery shortfalls and develop practical solutions
• Coordinate with client stakeholders, engineering teams, contractors, consultants, and internal account teams
• Track project timelines, dependencies, deliverables, action items, risks, and issues
• Support the development and implementation of project management methodologies, tools, and governance processes
• Coach project teams and serve as a change agent to encourage adoption of project management best practices
• Coordinate with account and project teams to develop innovative solutions and proposals that address client priorities
• Support utility client satisfaction, account growth, and business development activities
• Contribute to proposal development, including budgets, timelines, delivery approaches, and coordination with subject matter experts
• Support grants management and compliance activities when required

Required Qualifications

  • • Must be a United States Citizen or United States Permanent Resident due to the nature of client engagements
    • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, economics, finance, public policy, or a related discipline
    • At least seven years of post-graduation project management experience specifically in the power utility sector
    • Demonstrated experience managing physical capital infrastructure or large engineering projects within an electric or gas utility environment
    • Knowledge of the complete capital project and project management lifecycle beyond IT project management
    • Experience managing project scope, schedules, budgets, risks, financials, contracts, stakeholders, and performance reporting
    • Experience leading project teams or coordinating multidisciplinary project workstreams
    • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to visualize project and program data, synthesize findings, and make data-informed decisions
    • Ability to take ownership of significant project responsibilities while collaborating with a close-knit team
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines simultaneously
    • Proposal writing experience, including budget development and management of proposal timelines
    • Experience coordinating proposal input from multiple subject matter experts
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivery excellence
    • Excellent interpersonal, written communication, and stakeholder management skills
    • An inquisitive mindset and commitment to continuous improvement
    • Ability to travel as required
    • Ability to work onsite at the company or client office
