Job Title : Senior Network Engineer Cisco ONS & Network Automation - 12+ years of experience

Location: New York, NY (onsite)

We are currently seeking candidates who meet the following qualification

• Extensive hands-on experience as a Senior Network Engineer with strong Cisco Optical Network Solutions (ONS) knowledge.
• Strong experience with:
  • Cisco Catalyst routing/switching
  • Cisco Nexus routing/switching
  • Cisco ASR routing
  • BGP, including IBGP and EBGP
• Serve as a senior escalation point for complex enterprise networking issues and mentor junior engineers.
• Implement and operate core services across:
  • Routing and switching
  • Wireless LAN
  • WAN/MAN
  • Firewalls
  • Load balancers
  • IPAM
  • Optical systems
• Provide packet capture support and analyze network traffic flows.
• Drive network automation and standardization using configuration templates, network-as-code, and centralized management.
• Provide Cisco ONS engineering support, including:
  • Working with Cisco TAC to troubleshoot and resolve ONS issues
  • Traveling to CUNY NYC locations to replace ONS hardware
  • Installing new ONS hardware and cabling
  • Supporting fiber cabling troubleshooting, cleaning, and replacement
• Perform structured root cause analysis for recurring or high-impact incidents and recommend corrective actions.
• Develop and maintain automation using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Puppet, Python, Bash, PowerShell, GitHub/Git, or similar platforms.
• Build repeatable automation workflows for configuration backup, compliance checks, drift detection, device validation, provisioning, and low-risk network changes.
• Participate in the development of a phased Network-as-Code approach, including source-of-truth alignment, configuration validation, peer review, automated testing, and controlled deployment.
• Work closely with DevOps, DevSecOps, security, cloud, systems, and application teams to integrate network automation into broader enterprise workflows.
• Intermediate skills in Cisco and Meraki Wi-Fi technologies.
• Strong understanding of routing, switching, and IP subnetting.
• Solid understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, subnetting, BGP, OSPF/EIGRP, DNS, DHCP, NAT, VPN, wireless, datacenter technologies, and firewall concepts.
• Perform field replacements of failed equipment on the ONS-based optical network as required.

• Operate and support Cisco technologies, including ONS, Catalyst, Nexus, ASR, Aironet, and Meraki Wi-Fi solutions.
• Support LAN, WAN, and cloud connectivity.
• Develop MOPs, submit changes through ServiceNow, and implement approved changes.
• Perform network troubleshooting, trouble isolation, and trouble correction.
• Provide occasional field services across CUNY sites in the five boroughs to replace failed ONS modules.
• Respond to incidents and manage trouble tickets through resolution and closure.
• Provide network-level support to campus IT and infrastructure teams.
• Manage Cisco TAC support and coordinate vendor and carrier circuit repairs.
• Respond to network incidents and priorities as determined by CUNY.
