Mainframe Automation Engineer – IBM System Automation

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Automation Engineer with deep expertise in IBM Z System Automation and migration from CA/Broadcom automation tools. The ideal candidate will lead automation modernization efforts on IBM Z systems, ensuring high availability, operational efficiency, and seamless migration from legacy automation frameworks.
This role requires strong hands-on technical skills in z/OS operations, automation workflows, and system policies, as well as experience collaborating with infrastructure and operations teams to maintain mission-critical system uptime.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead z/OS automation migration projects, including:
· Migration from CA OPS/MVS to IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS
· Migration from CA Automation Point to IBM System Automation for Integrated Operations Management (SAIOM)
· Convert existing OPS/MVS rules and REXX execs into IBM System Automation–compatible configurations
· Implement and manage Policy Database (PDB) for automated operations
· Manage system startup, shutdown, and automated workflows in z/OS environments
· Provide operational support, troubleshooting, and consultancy for automation-related issues
· Collaborate with operations and infrastructure teams to ensure high availability of critical systems
· Participate in system monitoring, alerting, and event-driven automation design
· Support installation, configuration, and tuning of IBM automation tools
Required Qualifications
· 5+ years of experience in mainframe operations, automation, or support roles
· Strong hands-on expertise with:
o TSO/ISPF, JCL
o REXX, PIPE REXX, OPS REXX programming
o IBM System Automation Policy Database (PDB)
· Proven experience with:
· z/OS Automation Migration projects
· NetView for z/OS
· IBM Tivoli System Automation for z/OS
· Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
· Knowledge of z/OS system operations, including startup and shutdown processes
· Familiarity with SMP/E, automation frameworks, and system configuration best practices
· Experience with competing automation tools (Broadcom/CA tools)
· Hands-on experience with SAIOM (System Automation for Integrated Operations Management)
