Fiber/OTDR Lead (REMOTE)

Required:

General Experience:

• Minimum 3 years of experience within a Telecom Network Infrastructure environment

• Able to use generic office software

Knowledge:

• Project management and strong organizational competence

• Able to understand and interpret: OTDR, CD/PMD, OLTS, CMAX traces and files

• Able to describe the details, structure, and layout of ISP and OSP Fiber Networks

• Advanced experience using Fast Reporter 2 or equivalent

• Strong knowledge of ISP and OSP infrastructure

Communication:

• High-level analytical skills

• Effectively present information in team meetings, both written and orally

• Identify issues and implement resolutions effectively

• Assist deployed teams in fiber and wave issue resolution

• Multi-task effectively and maintain project deadlines

• Interface with vendors and develop issue remediation protocols

Desirable Skills / Experience

Technical:

• Operate typical optical fiber analysis test equipment, including OTDR, CD/PMD testing, and laser source/power meter (insertion loss) testing

• Understand and fully interpret Chromatic Dispersion and Polarization Mode Dispersion data

• Fully identify ISP and OSP fiber issues and provide resolution advice

• Understanding of various fiber types and their inherent characteristics

• Knowledge of splicing techniques and their inherent characteristics

• High working knowledge of EXFO Toolbox or similar software applications for fiber test data analysis

• High working knowledge of EXFO Fast Reporter software or similar software applications

Experience / Qualifications:

• Minimum of two years in a project management or project support capacity

• Bachelor's degree in a related Engineering field or equivalent technical experience

• Experience understanding vendor contractual deliverables

• Experienced with EXFO Fast Reporter software analysis tool

• Additional languages are a definite asset

Job Summary

Candidates will be responsible for managing the end-to-end testing of dark fiber delivery projects and providing the acceptance recommendation of purchased vendor networks.

Responsibilities:

• Manage project schedules as dictated by the customer

• Dark Fiber:

• Provide critical analysis of vendor fiber network data handover packages

• Use industry-standard software to assist (e.g., EXFO FastReporter2)

• Build reports from required field test data using FastReporter2, including:

• OTDR traces

• CD/PMD

• Power measurement / Span Loss

• ORL

• Fiber End Face validation

• Leased Wave Testing:

• Coordinate field teams to ensure successful completion of testing regimen

• Coordinate vendors to support field teams

• Build test data reports and optical power value reports

• Prepare deployment testing packages for Field Engineers, including:

• Network schematics

• Scope of work documents

• Test result packages

• Site access tickets and information

• Manage all project documentation and ensure delivery of final handover data within three days of test completion

• Interface and coordinate with vendors or customer support teams to provide remediation for dark fiber or leased wave issues
