Role Overview
We are seeking a senior, forward-thinking Solution Architect to own and lead Deposit Domain Architecture within US P&BB Technology. This role is responsible for shaping, governing, and modernizing deposit solutions while ensuring strong alignment with BMO Target Architecture, standards, and governance processes.
Will be responsible for providing solutions for ongoing projects on legacy core with modernization in mind. The architect will serve as the single point of contact (SPOC) for all Deposit-related initiatives and act as a trusted advisor to business, delivery, and architecture stakeholders across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
Domain Ownership & Architecture Leadership
Own end-to-end Solution Architecture for the Deposit domain, including DDA, Savings, CDs, and related servicing and transaction capabilities.
Act as the domain architecture lead for all Deposit initiatives across programs and portfolios.
Drive current-state, transition, and target-state architectures aligned with US P&BB and Enterprise Architecture roadmaps.
Core Banking & Modernization
Lead architecture decisions involving core banking platforms (e.g., FIS Core or equivalent), including coexistence, integration, and modernization strategies.
Champion legacy modernization, including:
Core decoupling and service enablement
Event-driven and near-real-time processing
Progressive migration patterns aligned to BMO standards
Architecture Governance & Artifacts
Produce and maintain high-quality architecture artifacts, including:
Solution Architecture Documents
Architecture diagrams (context, logical, integration, sequence)
Architecture Decision Records
Model and maintain solution views using architecture modeling tools such as iServer (nice to have / preferred).
Lead architecture reviews and secure approvals through BMO Architecture Governance forums (e.g., TDRC, ARB).
Ensure alignment with Enterprise Architecture, Security Architecture, and Technology Standards.
Stakeholder Alignment & Influence
Collaborate closely with Business, Product, Engineering, Platform, and Delivery teams to translate business outcomes into scalable technical solutions.
Align with Enterprise, Security, Infrastructure, and Data Architects to ensure holistic and compliant designs.
Influence and evolve architecture patterns, reference architectures, and domain standards within US P&BB.
Delivery Enablement & Oversight
Provide hands-on architectural guidance to delivery teams throughout the SDLC.
Review designs, integration approaches, and implementation details to ensure architectural integrity and compliance.
Actively support teams in resolving cross-domain, integration, performance, and resiliency challenges.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Banking & Deposit Domain Expertise
Strong experience in banking and financial services, with deep understanding of the Deposit domain.
Hands-on experience with core banking systems, preferably FIS Core.
Strong understanding of customer, account, transactions, and servicing lifecycles.
Solution Architecture Experience
Proven experience as a Solution or Domain Architect in large-scale, regulated environments.
Experience producing architecture artifacts suitable for formal governance and executive review.
Ability to balance strategic architecture vision with pragmatic delivery execution.
Modern Technology Expertise
Experience with modern, distributed architecture, including:
Cloud-native solutions (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform)
Microservices and API-first design
Near Real-Time (NRT) processing
Messaging and event-driven architectures (Kafka, streaming, pub/sub)
Nice to Have / Preferred Experience
Architecture modeling and repository tools such as iServer.
Experience with Core Modernization programs (coexistence, phased migrations, conversion programs).
Experience in Payments and Item Processing.
Experience integrating channel platforms with Banking Core, including:
Digital Banking
Teller systems
Banker / Branch applications
Exposure to observability, performance engineering, and resiliency patterns in high-volume transaction systems.
