As we transition our Microsoft centric infrastructure from on-premises to Azure cloud environments, we seek a skilled and resilient Systems Administrator to ensure seamless IT operations that support our attorneys, staff, and clients across multiple jurisdictions.
Position Summary
The Mid-level Systems Administrator will play a critical role in managing, maintaining, and optimizing our hybrid Microsoft ecosystem. This position involves hands-on administration of on-premises and cloud-based systems, with a strong focus on reliability, security, and compliance in a fast-paced legal environment. The ideal candidate thrives in high-pressure situations, demonstrates outstanding customer service, and proactively supports the firm's migration to Azure while ensuring minimal disruption to daily operations.
Key Responsibilities Microsoft Infrastructure Management: Administer and support Microsoft Windows Servers, Active Directory, MS Exchange (on-premises and hybrid), Office 365/Microsoft 365, and related services. Manage user accounts, mailboxes, licensing, and collaboration tools (Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive) with strict adherence to data governance and legal hold requirements.
Azure Migration and Cloud Administration: Lead and support the migration of on-premises workloads to Azure. Manage Azure resources, including virtual machines, networking, identity (Entra ID), and hybrid connectivity. Implement and monitor Azure policies, security controls, and cost optimization strategies.
Virtual Environments: Oversee virtual infrastructure (e.g., Hyper-V or VMware) for servers and applications, ensuring high availability, performance, and disaster recovery capabilities suitable for legal data protection.
Networking and Security: Maintain a solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls). Implement and manage patching schedules, vulnerability remediation, and security best practices to protect sensitive client and firm data in compliance with industry regulations (e.g., data privacy, ethical walls).
Patching, Monitoring, and Maintenance: Develop and execute comprehensive patching strategies for servers, applications, and endpoints. Monitor system health, respond to alerts, troubleshoot issues, and perform root cause analysis.
Incident Response and high stress Support: Provide Tier two & three support in high-pressure scenarios, including after-hours emergencies. Deliver exceptional customer service to attorneys and staff, communicating technical concepts clearly and empathetically.
Documentation and Compliance: Maintain detailed documentation of systems, procedures, and configurations. Support audit readiness, eDiscovery, and regulatory compliance efforts.
Project Participation: Contribute to infrastructure projects, cloud optimizations, and technology evaluations aligned with the firm's strategic goals.
Additional Duties: Collaborate with the IT team on cross-functional initiatives and stay current with Microsoft technologies and cybersecurity threats.
Qualifications and Experience
Education: Bachelor s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience: 4 7 years of progressive systems administration experience in a Microsoft environment.
Experience with on-premises to Azure migrations is strongly preferred.
Prior experience in a professional services or law firm setting is a bonus.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with MS Exchange, Windows Server, Office 365/M365, Azure (IaaS/PaaS, Entra ID, networking).
Experience managing virtual environments (Hyper-V/VMware).
Strong networking knowledge and hands-on patching/maintenance expertise.
PowerShell scripting and automation skills preferred.
Soft Skills: Proven ability to perform in high-stress environments with composure. Exceptional customer service orientation, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
Certifications (Preferred): Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert, or equivalent. CompTIA Network+ or Security+ a bonus.
Other: Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Occasional travel or on-call availability may be required.
