Job DescriptionEngineering & Safety InternshipLocation: Sumas, WA Type: PT / School Year Department: Plant Operations**Must be local to Washington State**WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?- Competitive hourly wage: $24.00 - $27.00

WHEN YOU JOIN US, YOU WILL BE:- Working alongside Process Engineers and HSE professionals to support plant safety and operational improvement initiatives
- Assisting with the development and maintenance of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Safe Work Instructions (SWIs)
- Creating JHAs and SWIs for new and existing equipment
- Supporting the plant's 5S continuous improvement program through audits, documentation, and improvement initiatives
- Identifying opportunities to improve workplace organization, efficiency, and safety
- Assisting with equipment labeling projects, including safety, maintenance, and process identification systems
- Supporting P&ID reviews and updates to ensure plant documentation remains accurate and current
- Conducting plant walkthroughs to identify safety, process, and operational improvement opportunities
- Collecting, organizing, and analyzing data to support engineering and safety projects
- Collaborating with operations, maintenance, engineering, and HSE teams on various special projects
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the facility
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Strong written communication skills with an interest in technical documentation
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Experience reading or working with engineering drawings and P&IDs is an asset
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or 5S principles is an asset
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
